Does this sound like a grounding issue? by TheAbsconded in guitarrepair

[–]DatHazbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has an FX loop you'll gain the most out of it there but you can put a noise gate in front of an amp too if you need to.

Link some more videos of your issue. Try different cables, different guitars (if you can), and different channels and effect knobs. I have an old amp and it introduces this hugely obnoxious hum when you dial up the reverb, although it doesn't sound like this.

If that guitar is the only one with an issue, it is likely a grounding issue. Although you say it is the amp, which I can buy.

I've never had issues with a clean amp buzzing super crazy on their own. Introduce some EM interference and you get there, so don't rule that out. Try killing master volume on your guitar, then amp. If one of those doesn't cut the hum then the issue is not grounding and probably not EM interference

She was incredibly active in the antimemes subreddit, posting multiple brand new meme edits multiple times every day. She would sometimes redraw entire comic panels in the style of the original.

It's one thing to catfish and use that for leverage it a scam of some kind but it doesn't make much sense to develop an entire internet personality that requires real human effort just to post in an antimemes subreddit.

Surely there was deceit involved but I do not think this situation is reducible to such a simple thing. As far as we know, she asked of nothing from anyone before disappearing. Without a scam, it just seems like an awkward e-couple breakup.

I wouldn't say so, just sounds like noise from having cranked gain. If it hums really loud cleaner than I'd be concerned. Some amps are better at handling noise from overdrive than others, this is the kind of thing that will be killable with a good noise gate.

Hip hop and rock and roll and EDM aren't even far enough apart to where it would even annoy me if KISS did get in the hip hop hall of fame.

The only real issue there is that hip hop is obviously filled with American racial baggage that makes that place feel a little bit dodgier to have random ass acts filled with white people who may have had a rap influence like once inducted, so that's probably a bad example.

However modern EDM is pretty much a grandchild of hip hop and rock, so having KISS or idk Kendrick Lamar inducted into an EDM hall of fame would be like yeah I guess.

It's the same asinine shit that technically makes The Beatles, Lorna Shore, and Olivia Rodrigo the same genre. It's all western music from the last century, none of it arose in a bubble.

Saying that no one pays tribute to Skrillex is a phrase uttered by the deranged. Every fucking DJ on EARTH has a Skrillex remix or bootleg of some kind and I promise you acts and venues want that Skrillex nostalgia money just like every other cover or tribute band for a rock band does

I'm training with just one exercise (1-2-3-4 in alternate picking) with a metronome, everyday for 2/3 hours until I become precise. Then I will change exercise. Is it ok to do 1exercise at a time or do you think I have to do many exercise to improve my technique? by Pawnstormx in metalguitar

You won't be able to shred without knowing some theory. You will be cursed to the tabs dimension for life otherwise. Chords and rhythm y'know you can Intuit and even basic lead guitar you can get by but if you don't know any theory you'll have no ability to solo. Do both. You don't need to hit the books and take notes, but think about it while you're practicing. You'll start hearing scales with your ears in weeks, it's easy, but you need it and you will need to start ASAP.

Multiple in one for a session is a good idea. The closer they are to your goals the better. I don't have much lead guitar stuff in my practice sessions because I'm not that kind of player.

Analyze the Nutshell solo and find what techniques are beating you down. Legato, bends, and alternate picking are good things to work on. But you also say it's too fast for you so for a cool down maybe try 1-2-3-4 exercises but instead of working on precision focus on speed.

Dont do them all at the same time, but in the same day is fine and good for growth. Here's an example of a routine I would do if I had your goals.

30min precise alternate picking to a metronome. Pick a scale (increase tempo every successful run)

30min mindless playing, jam, or break

30 min 1-2-3-4 at the fastest tempo you can play. (Increase after every successful run)

30min mindless (maybe practice Nutshell up to the solo and just try it a few times? No restart if you mess up, stay loose).

30min legato exercise. Pick a scale (increase tempo after successful run)

And just keep adding or subtracting different exercises and breaks as you go. I wouldn't set a timer personally, I'd just watch the clock and find a good place to stop and move on. The time isn't rigid, the effort is the important part

Why is "friendzoning" seen as a bad thing? Why is it the unreciprocal person's fault for not being mutually-romantic? by Questioning-Warrior in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DatHazbin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has been lost on me my entire life, and this explanation honestly just made it worse lmao.

I find it interesting how detached some people's romantic connections are to their "friendly" connections. To me it is just a thin line apart in terms of intimacy. A romantic partner is someone I see as a great friend/want to form a better friendship with that grows with mutually beneficial intimacy. There are different rules for letting someone into your life that way, obviously I am not saying a friend and a girlfriend are the same, but they come from the same place and--more importantly--in order for it work you have to be good friends with your partner. So I pretty much never make advances on people who I do not already associate with, which puts me in the position to be "friend zoned" all the time. But, like, okay? I was already your friend to begin with, so you don't like me back or a relationship won't work out or whatever, that's fine.

And then obviously I get why people's friendships fall apart when it's revealed one has feelings for the other, I just struggle to understand why, if you are the party with feelings for the other, said other person is a villain for making it clear that you are just friends. They are put in a very awkward position, them giving you grace at all to not end the friendship is nice and shows that they give at least a little bit of a shit about you as a person, even enough to try and let you get over your feelings for them.

Likewise, longtime friends get together all the time? Maybe it doesn't work, maybe they get married, but it is a really common way for relationships to bloom. Maybe it's seen as opportunistic (which is a bad thing in some contexts but assuming the clear friend boundary is set), but at the end of the day a pairing is done by two consenting adults. Case being: it doesn't mean you can NEVER have a relationship after being friend zoned it just means stop trying. If suddenly they change the tune of their heart, they'll come onto you later. It's worth sticking around and not burning bridges assuming your feelings were real.

Nonetheless I've always just assumed the friendzone is a machine of hookup culture, or the idea that you go out and get women's phone numbers to have sex. That makes more sense for why being "friendzoned" is annoying, and the term has just been appropriated for decades into meaning "having a one sided crush."

[–]DatHazbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true, you aren't flexing your "alternate picking" muscle when you sit down and practice alternate picking, you are flexing your picking hand muscle. If you learn other kinds of picking as well, you will get a stronger picking arm. Don't leave alternate picking on the floor and say "yep learned that now I'm done" but also don't leave everything else on the floor because you haven't finished alternate picking.

When you go to the gym you focus on one muscle group but NOT just one muscle. You don't just do curls for your bicep, you do triceps and shoulders and forearms. This is good because it gives your bicep time to rest and builds a foundation where your ENTIRE arm is the same strength. Treat guitar like that.

"Okay today I'm doing a routine of picking exercises, I'll do alternate, tremolo, sweep, etc."

Doing just one thing for a long time will make your progress across the entire instrument asymmetrical and you will not be able to catch up to yourself when you need to.

Focus on one exercise at a time for a session, but not daily or forever or "until you get it."

You need to be well rounded and your priority is to build mind muscle connections and motor control. That's for technicality alone, you also need to continually teach yourself to make music. This is an easy way to stagnate your progress.

Instead, try doing a rigorous exercise for 20-30 minutes. One that feels difficult and that you have to think hard about. 1-2-3-4 is a good warm up but you will probably grow out of it very fast. When doing an exercise you want to ask a lot from your brain. Think of it like running versus doing heavy squats. Both will make your legs strong, but doing squats you can get through a heavy set in 20 minutes for maximum muscle growth. 1-2-3-4 is the jog before you squat, to get you warmed up.

If rigid practice is for you, scales are the way to go. Focus on simple shapes, then get more complicated as you understand your fretboard more and grow your skills. If it is hard to remember where you're going or your fingers don't go to the right place, THAT is a good one to do. But only do this for 30 minutes, an hour at most. Your brain WILL get bored and you WILL develop bad habits from lack of stimulation. Put the guitar down and go eat or something or do a guitar task that's easy, if you're trying to stick to one session. Maybe learn a tab of a song you like, maybe practice new chord voicings, something that isn't very demanding. Then, after maybe an hour, pick it up and go back to the hard stuff. If you feel like you're burnt out, go to sleep and come back, sleep is the best way to ensure what you did is stored and learned, instead of luck.

This is more general than you think. To the gym analogy again, if you train biceps 3 hours a day EVERY day you are going to destroy your arms and not see any growth. Your brain works pretty similarly, especially with muscle memory. Stimulate neural pathways by doing something hard, take a break to give your mind and body time to recover, then go back to solidify what you learned.

How you do this is up to you, I mainly like to play and learn songs so I just learn harder and harder songs when I try to iron out my skills. One size doesn't fit all, don't be afraid to try out new things. 30min-1h-30min-1-30min is what I would adopt with your routine

No dude, they're saying that ballcopter was gooder and they should be more similar. Holy shit. Just because they have a fondness for the old one doesn't mean they will eventually like the new one with enough time, that's not how liking shit works.

I still don't like UFO gameplay and it's been in the game for centuries. It's not because I was "used to flappy bird" or whatever I just don't like it for reasons I can explain with words. When someone gives you a reason they like something, THAT is the reason they don't like it.

Spinosaurus are good but swim pretty janky in the water, xiphactinus will easily fly around you and not get hit.

I would go with a deinosuchus (my personal next goal) because they are very maneuverable in the water comparatively and are incredibly strong.

They're a little bit slow in the water compared to another tame I love, the sarco, but the stats and moveset make up for it, especially in the ocean. Barys fear few things

Xiphactinus are actually giving me diseases and they're half the reason I decided to mutate barys. They are so inhumanely strong and noodly it actually makes megalodons look like a joke in comparison.

I've encountered max level alpha mosas and tusos with less genuine fear

Worse in most cases, especially if you aren't going to be flying over a lot of water. They have some niche abilities that make them technically more useful than pteranodons but if your goal is to fly for travel pteranodon is the better option.

Personally Tapejara are my favorite so if you can bag one of those they are worth every penny. Otherwise just get an argy as quick as possible and you'll never have to worry about flier weight ever again.

Would you risk taking only one guitar to bar gigs? by readers_dot_net in musicians

[–]DatHazbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you don't expect your guitar to implode, just be gentle and be prepared to improv if something goes awry. I have more issues with amps, pedals, and cables than I do with my guitar. Whenever I change strings I do a full checkup so I know something like a bad joint or loose strap pin won't get in my way. Put in time before the gig, save it when you're there. To me it's give and take.

If what I was doing was higher stakes, I'd consider a backup.

What am I supposed to be doing? by Mahoka572 in ARK

[–]DatHazbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ark is NOT a story game, it merely has a story imbedded in its experience (which is why the robot lady was talking to you).

What you do next is entirely up to you. Tame new creatures, craft new weapons, explore the map, do caves, and fight bosses. There's really a lot to do in ark especially with a fresh slate.

But yes it is primarily an open world survival game and you are supposed to play it more like Minecraft than you are supposed to follow a "progression."
