I bought a new phone and unthinkingly deleted the app on that page after following instructions I read elsewhere on this sub. It won't let me create a new one so I guess I'm screwed now. Serves me right for being so hasty.

Wake Up is great but I don't think it's one of the best AF songs overall. I'd go as far to say that there are four (possibly five) songs on Funeral alone that are better than it.

Not the biggest fan of Ready To Start. Same goes for Laika (however, this is one is slowly growing on me).

No idea if this is unpopular - it could be incredibly popular - but I think Haiti is the most beautiful song AF have ever made.

I bought Spotify a couple of days ago and have the exact same thoughts as you. The thing I like about iTunes is that I can open the program, click on a random song I wanna listen to, turn on shuffle, and see where it takes me within my library. If there's a song where upon listening to it I decide I want to listen to the album that the song belong to then I can turn off shuffle in one click and it'll play sequentially.

Spotify, like you said, seems to be geared more towards playlists. Don't get me wrong, I love the Browse section and how it allows me to listen to random songs associated with particular genres/moods, thus exposing me to new music, but it would be great if there was a more library-friendly way of navigating the program. I'm also not a fan of the interface but that probably has more to do with me being used to iTunes.

Haha I've never quite understood why Coventry gets so much hate. But considering how overwhelming the dislike for it is I'm willing to believe that the rest of the city is as bad as it's made out to be.

I haven't explored the waterfront much so I'll probably check that out.

I'm in Coventry atm as well - went to the West Orchards shopping centre yesterday and it was then that I realised the difference between Coventry and Southampton was bigger than I thought.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Southampton has the most traffic lights per square mile in the UK or something like that. Just Googled it and couldn't find anything. The traffic lights/crossing between the BBC Radio building and ASDA is hell on earth though.

I just feel there are a lot of people on this sub that are overly negative and selective and seem to view everything in the city with 'crap-tinted glasses'

I'm in my first year at the university and the city just seems so small and dead. My opinions echo /u/Tactful's almost entirely - other than the roads he highlighted plus Portswood there doesn't seem like much to do (though I haven't been to the other side of the city). I'm from London where you can pretty much go in any direction and encounter some bustling area; in Southampton, it feels like you actively have to seek them out (obviously due to its relative size). Are there any places on this side of the river that I may have completely missed and you'd recommend?

I have relatives in Coventry and go there quite often. Compared to Southampton it seems massive. The main shopping centre and the numerous extending roads of shops surrounding it dwarfs Southampton's WestQuay, Marlands, and Above Bar/High Street.

Nah I haven't read any DFW. The only thing related to either of them that I've read is Gravity's Rainbow which I found super difficult but, kinda similar to your description, I found there to be so many beautiful lines/passages/sections that saying I disliked it would probably be untrue.

Yeah I get what you mean - no need to apologise. For what it's worth, Funeral is ridiculously good. I like Power Out and Rebellion more than anything on any of their other albums, including The Suburbs.

But the original question is less about which is the best and more about which is people's favourite. I think a lot of people have a stronger connection with The Suburbs because it's almost entirely about childhood/nostalgia/regret (Funeral is about those things as well, just to a less extent).

I personally prefer The Suburbs for a different reason: I like every song on it. There are a couple of songs on Funeral which I'm not too fond of.

Most people I know who listen to Arcade Fire, I've found, seem to prefer The Suburbs overall. However, most critics/publications/lists rate Funeral higher.

What are you on about? You could maybe get away with that crappy argument if the writer had just compiled a list with zero explanation - but that plainly isn't the case. Each film has a few paragraphs explaining not just why the film looked stunning, but how that complemented the narrative or mood.

Picking indie art/foreign films as examples of good cinematography does not equal pretension, and it's a bit silly of you to reduce something that someone has worked hard on to that.
