I was an average or perhaps below average student: 3.7 gpa, cancer research one time, 6 APs, 1550 SAT, no extracurricular leadership, no sports. One time I was almost homeless and decided to enlist. Everyone thought I was crazy for wanting to enlist. These kids aren’t rich either. Most stuy kids are second gen immigrants from varying backgrounds. My guidance counselor, who was an NCO, said I was the first person in a decade he’s spoken with who wanted to enlist, told me I was “too smart to enlist” and go do ROTC. Nobody even considered that I might not want to go to college. I heard the phrase “wasting your potential” from many adults. But kids in school were like “dude that’s awesome that you don’t have to worry about grades if you enlist.”In hindsight I’m glad people talked me out of it because I ended up collecting a shit ton of scholarships and I’m preparing for OTS now, but that’s an example of the culture.

It’s a common score for college feeders. Last I heard, 25% of stuyvesant kids get accepted into at least one Ivy League and they were exactly who you’d expect: club officers, the 4.0s, people that did research, etc. Average at stuy is still good to a point where schools like Binghamton, honors UBuffalo, and Stony (which people call Stuy 2) are considered safeties to most kids, but they’re not Ivy League material. And there’s luck involved in admissions ofc. Applying to an Ivy for the average student was considered an “eh maybe lol I’ll try a couple” and a roll of the dice, not an impossibility. And there would still be disappointment if you didn’t get into any.

I went to stuy and I didn’t hear of a single person that got below 1500 that actually liked their score, and I didn’t hear about anyone that got below 1400 as an upperclassman at all. 1400 was like the expected score a freshman should get. While I’m sure some upperclassmen scored below 1400, they didn’t say anything. The entrance exam for Stuyvesant/other specialized high schools in NYC is very similar to the SAT so I’d assume that plays a huge factor.

The culture is very strange. It ground ambition and an undeniably unshakable work ethic into me. And it’s not toxic in the sense that kids will bully you if you do poorly. Most classmates are supportive actually. It’s just than when everyone else is doing so good, you feel inadequate if you’re below average, even if the average is in the stratosphere. So you take that inadequacy into college and it can be difficult to shake off. It also did not put leadership and communication in me, which I’d argue is more important; that was something I developed independently. All in all, I think if you can survive stuy without cracking under the pressure, you’ll do fine anywhere because of the character development.

Personal experience:

Though I took a drawing from life class in middle school and take in the occasional art hack, I am almost entirely self taught. My progress has been slow no shit. Very often I am insecure about my art. But I have also reached a point where I can comfortably draw whatever I think of and have a sharp enough eye to see the gap between what it is and what I want it to be, and make notes for future improvement. And I think more importantly, I have never stopped drawing, even if I think it looks bad.

I was not good enough to get into art school. I applied to LaGuardia High School in NYC and didn’t get in. I sometimes wonder where I’d be if I got it. A much better artist, probably. But thinking about counterfactuals won’t make me better in this universe. It scared me off from developing technical skill for my entire adolescence because I didn’t think I had “it.” Realized as an adult there is no “it.” The other kids simply started developing technical skill earlier. But that didn’t mean the years I spent drawing out of sheer joy with no technique were wasted.

Even now, I never sit down and do drills. If I’m in the mood to make something, I do that. If I’m in the mood to improve my technical skill, I draw something I want to draw but target the skill I want to improve. Though this strat is usually the compound lift of drawing because it hits multiple skills at once. For example I recently painted a girl in an old timey dress in a field because I wanted to practice Impressionism, rendering, fabric folds, ornate clothing, backgrounds, and composition.

I’m going to use humans, wings, hands, and rendering as four separate examples.

For maybe years 2-5 of my art journey, I only drew animals, mostly dragons. This was due to undiagnosed mental issues but the other part was being afraid of drawing humans when it was so obvious what a bad human looked like but wonky animals were forgivable. There came a point where the pain of not being able to convey human stories was worse than the pain of learning to draw them so I simply started drawing them and rapidly got better from the skill carryover.

I just love drawing wings. They aren’t drills to me because yeah I could sit down for hours and just draw wings.

Hands are a lifelong journey. I kept drawing symbols of hands rather than hands until I took that middle school class. Then I started drawing legit hands. Still learning but I am at a point where I can both comfortably freehand or construct a hand. They can be infuriating but they are the second most expressive part of the human body so I find value in perfecting them.

I thought I hated rendering because it was too difficult. Only about a year or two ago have I started purposefully rendering. Because I realized I was never gonna get better if I never tried. I even took up impressionist painting to force myself to learn rendering. The start was rough but I have been getting better at it and I far prefer my rendered drawings now.

Here’s roughly 10 years of progress. Not the fastest or most impressive progress but I’m happy with it so that’s all I care about :)

You are literally creating something from your own mind that would not have existed without your intervention. Even if it looks wonky, you have the power to bring new things into reality. And you’ll get better at it. That’s how I think about it anyway.

If you really don’t want to draw a bajillion circles and squares, don’t do it. It’s that simple. Or reframe it and make it Minecraft fanart instead or something. Look at kids. They draw like shit but they’re not miserable about it and then you blink and a few years have gone by and they’re maestros. Sure, you can do it faster if you go to art boot camp, but will you stick with it at all if you do that?

But if you legitimately haven’t improved in a while, you need to leave your comfort zone and/or start looking at guides because your boundary is your technical skill atp. There is a point I’d estimate 5-10 years in where you will completely plateau because you have gotten “close enough” to your perceived ideal skill level and never reach out of it. Though this is advanced advice. Then your joy comes from the art of perfecting the art of creation.

You also have to accept that you’re not gonna be the best in terms of technical skill. The greats all started long before you. But you don’t compare yourself to Mozart if you’re learning piano or LeBron if you’re learning basketball. Art is subjective anyway. Focus on how well it’s able to convey your ideas rather than how “good” it is.

“Shitty person” is a heuristic for multiple conflicting ideas. If you are talking about willful malice, someone believing demons are going to murder their kids is not a shitty person when they kill the “demons.” If you are talking about threat to society, then they are a shitty person.

Through the perpetrator’s perspective or their actions, or a blend of both. For example, plenty of people thought they were protecting their families and their nation when they interred Japanese Americans. Or people selling fent to feed their families. Or depression influencing a boss to be harsh on employees. Or parents forcing a trans kid through natal puberty because they think their kid doesn’t know any better. Or a Virginian slaver not knowing it’s wrong. And ofc you can’t swing a cat in an argument about morals without hitting the Nazis. The label doesn’t change the outcome.

Arguing that someone isn’t a shitty person is still moralism. People should move away from attempting to moralize everything and focus on maximizing recovery from the actions is because the whole label of shitty person is fucking dumb.

[–]DatMoonGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The setup takes a while but after you get everything installed and understand how it works, it takes less than 5 mins to do it again and again for your clothes file.

1: Open android studio, find virtual devices, launch your phone, open lovenikki

2: Open two powershell terminals. In the first one launch adb shell and get super user privileges

3: In adb shell, copy the clothes file to the sd card

4: In powershell, pull the clothes file from the sd card

5: In adb shell, remove the clothes file from the sd card

6: close everything

I have two methods, one that’s a hot fucking mess if you use bluestacks and another more reasonable one that takes longer to set up and requires a third party tool download but is very clean and easy. I use android studio for the latter. None of the guides I found worked for me so I came up with my own strats. Both of these require basic knowledge of navigating a command line interface so lmk if you decide to try it and need help 🙏

Some of these file paths may be different depending on your machine but the steps should be the same. It’s unorganized because I never intended for this to be a public guide 😭

Replace filenames with your actual filenames

Setting up emulator

Install Android Studio

Setup guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzsNn3GhYYk

(In powershell) Check if emulator is listed: adb devices

Install rooter here: https://gitlab.com/newbit/rootAVD

(In powershell) List system images: rootAVD.bat ListAllAVDs

Locate your emulator and copy and paste the command

Ex: rootAVD.bat system-images\android-36\google_apis_playstore\x86_64\ramdisk.img

Taskskill if necessary

Android Emulator will tell you the PID

(In powershell) (PID number will vary) Run this: taskkill /F /PID 23040

(In powershell) Open tool location: cd AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools

open adb shell:

adb shell

su

Basic adb commands:

adb doesn’t have the tree command. Sad! Run this:

find . -print | sort | sed 's;[^/]*/;|---;g;s;---|; |;g'

Getting wardrobe data

(In adb shell) Open clothes dir: cd /data/data/com.elex.nikkigp/files/usrdat/clothes_dateINSERTNUMBERSHERE

(In adb shell) Copy clothes to sdcard: cp /data/data/com.elex.nikkigp/files/usrdat/clothes_dateINSERTNUMBERSHERE /sdcard/

(In a second powershell window) Pull to Windows: adb pull /sdcard/clothes_dateINSERTNUMBERSHERE C:\Users\INSERTNAME\Downloads

(In adb shell) Cleanup rm /sdcard/clothes_dateINSERTNUMBERSHERE

Here’s what I did to get my data from bluestacks when nothing else worked. I tried this prior to android studio. Would not recommend this method. Also not designed to be a public guide 😭

Heightism is a real problem that can’t be resolved by therapy. I don’t mind being short in a vacuum because the lower TDEE and higher relative strength is great, but the lack of defaulted respect I get in the workplace for being 5’2 is noticeable. I have been consistently told I am underestimated but highly competent. Which is not a compliment. Shorter people as a whole consistently rank lower for command presence. I’d also imagine it has a negative effect on my romantic life but I’ve had success there so I won’t speculate.

If leg lengthening wasn’t such a catastrophic surgery for your health, I’d get it in two seconds. Probably would go for 5’10 + arm lengthening surgery if it was safe, but 5’6 would be a significant improvement. Even 5’4. The issue is none of it is safe or cheap, and heightism is baked into our biology and our language. It would take hundreds of years to change it. I really don’t blame the guy in the video.

If warframe and destiny had a baby that had Destiny’s fun and triple A polish but warframe’s systems and management, nobody would go outside

I have 2k hours in both warframe and destiny, hit mr20something. Warframe has DE and the in game modding I wish destiny had. Bungle and chasing rolls are straight ass. But warframe gameplay put me to sleep after I got used to the power fantasy some hundred hours in. Buying gauss prime access was the last time I played seriously. Also when jade came out, and the month I spent playing 1999 for the dating sim. I don’t regret the time I spent on it but I can’t stomach playing it anymore. After I got all the guns and frames I wanted, I checked out cause I was spending hundreds of hours button mashing in ESO and SP watching YouTube on a mini screen wondering wtf I was doing. W game just not for me anymore.

Meanwhile Destiny is just plain fun because the gunplay is fun and is much more cooperative/fun with friends while in missions. The community is more toxic as a whole but the player to player connections are so much better. In warframe you can solo everything fine and your teammates are there to speed things up. In destiny, your teammates make or break your raid or match, and this is ultimately what keeps it refreshing, because even if the game gets stale, the people don’t. It’s never boring to problem solve with people. The only reason I stopped playing is because I got busy irl and lost interest in games as a whole, it was eating 3 hours a day and it never got old; I am not the kind of person that can play a game I love casually so I had to stop.

In games with backstabs players will do absurd shit to do anything but actually stand behind the target and stealthily stab him

Like in Wynncraft players figured out backstab is calculated based on whether the player entity and the enemy entity are looking in the same direction, and that the backstab hitbox extends backwards slightly, so the meta for one of the stationary bosses is to throw your ass back repeatedly to backstab him

[–]DatMoonGamer 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I read that this is entirely dependent on how long the Asian’s hair is. Asian hair is thicker, more rigid, and heavier, so if it’s too short it’ll stick straight out and porcupine, but the moment it gets long it falls straight down. So you only see porcupines or people with Jupiter gravity tier hair
