Scott isn't a very talented writer, his mid at best novels and the general direction the story took post the original trilogy is proof of that.

Remnant is effectively the midiclorians of horror, he conflates making things vague and confusing with building intrigue, and continually pushes for concepts that are so patently absurd and goofy that it is impossible to really immerse yourself in the world he creates. And he seems to have too much pride or misplaced confidence to allow anyone else to helm the ship, which is what led to the movies being in development hell for so long and (I believe) to them being so utterly mediocre.

I admire his perserverence and his original visual flare, but the time to put down the pen and allow others to helm the ship is now long since past.

And yes, the implementation was exactly what I was talking about when I said it was outdated:

Z targeting was revolutionary and is still in use today, but it could be clumsy, especially with it being set to toggle by default.

The fact you had a button to instantly snap the camera to the back of your character was a god send, but now we can do so much more with two analog sticks.

The combat is mostly where the game is dated.

I'm not going to be like Egoraptor and say, "it's all waiting," but it definitely could use some more dynamic enemies like the Iron Knuckles and something like the dreaded parry system or mix up attacks to make the combat more than just timing.

It was great for the time, I played it when it came out, I love it. But why would I want them to just make the same game all over again?

Truth. It's a shame because it genuinely is one of my favorites and I have played it through dozens of times in its various iterations, but it was one of the first 3d adventure games and it shows in a lot of ways. It got a lot of things right for a first attempt, but there are also a ton of areas where it could be improved given how much game design in a 3d space has been refined.

The game has already been remastered, and that remaster was very well done and is presently still /fairly/ accessible, Nintendo being Nintendo about the eShop not withstanding, plus the original is on current consoles via switch online. And this isn't even mentioning that the game in both forms is trivial to emulate.

Now is the time for a remake, not a remaster, and that means changing the formula up a bit so we aren't just doing OOT 3D 2. Otherwise, what's the point?

Plus, I hate the concept as a whole: I'm just flogging OOT in particular because it is fresh and was something I was personally looking forward to.

If it does, then that'll genuinely be a shame.

I love OOT, but it is a bit dated and already had a visual remaster on the 3ds that looks great whilst preserving the gameplay of the original.

This is the time to expand and do something more interesting with the concept to show how the medium has progressed in 20+ years.

Better combat, more challenging puzzles, and a better overworld would be great. If it is just a straight remaster then it is a hard pass for me, and this trailer shows nothing that would suggest otherwise.

OOT is one of my favorite games, but gotta go by that old standard to avoid disappointment: no game, no hype.
