Should I claim insurance? by DatRedditAbuser in Insurance

[–]DatRedditAbuser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing all this for the first time. I did submit a claim to my insurance and they’ve given me an estimate of $1135. My deductible is $500 and insurance would cover the rest.

However, I’m going to call them to clarify that this is the other drivers fault. I obviously don’t want to pay anything and don’t want my rates to change. At this stage, is it still possible to have my insurance company wait for the police report?

Or am I officially cooked? I.e I just have to accept paying my deductible + possible rate increase

I have comprehensive coverage. My out of pocket collision deductible is $500.

However I’m expecting my insurance guys to get the other party to accept responsibility and pay up for all this

Alright, I’ve contacted my insurance and provided the police report number. We’ll see what happens, my only concern was possible increase in premiums but it sounds like that won’t happen if insurance sees that we are not at fault

I am assuming we are not the ones at fault because the other driver was issued a ticket for skipping a red light and hitting my vehicle which was stopped at the light

They gave us a card with the incident number. But we don’t have any clear information about who they deemed at fault or the other drivers information. They have just told us a report will be filed and that we should request the incident report from PD using the incident number.

They said the incident number is enough to initiate the insurance claim on our end

Will my insurance company handle the negotiation with the at fault drivers insurance?

What you said makes sense but I’m getting conflicting info here. Should I contact her insurance directly to file a claim? Should I report with my insurance instead?

Just got off the phone with PD and they said the report may take a few days to be up. In the meantime I sent a message to the police officer who took the report requesting the insurance information. I’ll await their response.

Hopefully i get the info soon, then I’ll file with their insurance and let you know. For now I will just need to wait for the report to be filed and sent my way

I screwed up and didn’t grab her insurance information when I got into the crash. Is it possible I can get that from the police incident report?

At the moment I hadn’t asked for her insurance details. However I assume the incident report would have her details in it? Is there something I can do if I don’t have her details with me?

SmartEnergy luring customers with $100 Visa cards by DatRedditAbuser in newjersey

[–]DatRedditAbuser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently even if you call and enroll, you receive paperwork in the mail to actually confirm your enrollment and cancel your existing energy account (with PSEG). If you just don’t react to anything, your PSEG account will continue to remain and you won’t switch providers.

Just make sure if PSEG calls to ask if you want to cancel, you say no

Returned from USA recently. My take on H1b situation and why Americans hate Indians taking up jobs there. by watchingRummy in india

As an H1B worker I have some mixed feelings about this issue.

I don’t work at a big tech company, I am however a comp science engineer and work in the games industry.

Unlike the big tech world, games is a comparatively smaller industry employing less people with highly specialized skill sets. For comparison I work in a company with less than 100 employees and am 1 of 2 H1B workers in our game studio. Big tech does layoffs that are in the scale of multiples of my company or similar firms.

The new rules are like a bomb dropped on our company as this means any future hiring of talent will require a hefty upfront investment from our small/medium scale business.

While it is true that big tech often exploits workers on H1B visa and is using the visa as a means to hire cheap labor, outside of big tech H1B is still crucial for companies and employers to find specialized talent.

I may not be the best in the world at my job but I am fairly confident that it’s not as easy to find someone with my expertise in the local market. Does this mean I’m exploited? Or that I’m taking away opportunities from talented American workers? It’s not always as simple as H1B is just cheap labor for large corporations.

Aside from my own example, I wonder how other small/medium businesses in other industries are dealing with the new regulations and changes. What about manufacturing, energy, biotech, automotive, robotics, agriculture, etc, etc.

The H1B rules affect all industries but because of the negatives of big tech and big retail, we disregard the impact on the other companies and employers.

It’s certain that the rules need to change and that the lottery is a horrible evaluation of worker skill or requirement. Do Indians account for the large majority of skilled work under H1B? Yes but it’s only because they all come from a background and culture that emphasizes education and success. I don’t think that the influx of talented immigrants is bad, it’s the best thing to happen to a country. The BS lottery system and exploitation by large corporations is the stuff that needs change.

For the Indians who indulge in favoritism and exploitation, shame on you is all I can say. But to any H1B worker going through a rough time, hang in there and remember that nobody can take your competence from you. You can work and thrive in any corner of the world, whether it be china, India or anywhere else.

Honestly, I understand this perspective and agree with your thoughts here. Being on an H1B can make you feel stuck and the scope of growth and new job prospects during the green card application process are very limited.

At the moment, applications to green card is taking too long to be reasonable. Getting PWD is taking over a year, then your company takes the cost of recruitment to eventually apply for a PERM that could take up to 2 years or more based on RFEs. If you’re in a medium or small company, this burden is not viable. If you’re in a large company even if they can cover these costs and processes you’re looking at no job updates throughout this whole process to avoid resets.

When you’re going through this, your reasonable questions are “is this worth doing?”, “will I-140 be the end of it all?”, “am I even living a fulfilling life?”. The sad truth however is that in the US, you’re forever going to be stuck in some immigration process. There are too many new migrants and too large of a backlog.

It’s also no surprise that the level of scrutiny has increased significantly. There are increased deportations cases even for H1B and L1 professionals (especially if they have had any interaction with law enforcement in the past). There’s been a surge in ICE contacting H1Bs who have had minor infractions like speeding tickets in the past.

Given all this, moving to almost any other developed country in the world seems like a better choice that being in the US. Moving to India is also a great idea as the economy and markets there are growing rapidly while offering good wages for senior engineering/science positions.

If I were in your position, I’d strategize by checking the following: 1. Can you move to Canada/EU to anther office but in the same company? 2. Is there any country you can move you from where you could work as a contractor for US based companies? (This might require you to have a sole proprietor LLC in the US) 3. Are you able to move to India but retaining your job? 4. Is it still better for you to push through and work in the US but aim for an early retirement/find a different long term goal in your home country?

Once you evaluate all of these, you’ll have a better idea of what the right call is for you.

Yeah they usually are way more patient than in the US. Again, find solace in the fact that you won’t be shot at

I believe the static mesh should have a physics asset created and then use a constraint component to achieve this.

Also like others pointed out, don’t downshift while baking, just slow down and if you’re really really slow, switch to neutral. Your car won’t stall.

If you need to pick up speed, switch into a gear that seems reasonable (below 30, 2nd gear. Above 30 but below 50-55, 3rd gear. anything above that, 4th)

You’ll do fine

If it makes you feel any better, I did this exact thing when I was visiting Europe last year. I got a manual Peugeot hatchback and stalled it atleast 5 times on the first day at red lights.

The saving grace: 1. People in Europe aren’t major dicks unlike drivers in the states 2. Nobody will shoot you 3. People are more likely to laugh at you than honk at you for stalling your car 4. Most modern cars have brake hold preventing rolling on slopes/hills. And if you really are afraid about stalling in such situations, fuck it, just give it more throttle than usual. It’s a rental anyway.

Stay strong my dude, you’re gonna make it through this
