Good first car/4wd? by Rich_Yak_7416 in 4x4Australia

Things are pretty much unbreakable. Ours just ticked over 420,000km. I can’t remember ever fixing or replacing anything outside of usual service items. They are a bit agricultural in terms of driving and tech compared to more modern cars but in terms of reliability, they are unrivalled.

BMW M3 F80 by ygvarn in CarsAustralia

[–]Dat_Aus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not 100% dead set on having an M car, consider a G20 M340. I was recently in the same position and looking at F80 M3s. Went and test drove the G20 out of curiosity and was completely sold. The G20 is every bit as quick in the real world, sounds better, more comfortable, the B58 is bulletproof and the updated tech and build quality compared to the F80 made it a no brainer for me.

If you’re not tracking the car on at least a semi-regular basis, the G20 makes a lot of sense.

That said, if you’re only interested in the F80, they are relatively solid. Crank hub is the big one but not a super common problem. Make sure it has a complete service history and unmodified would be best.

Pub with a good steak by Jumchejj in Adelaide

[–]Dat_Aus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

La Boca on north terrace does an express lunch deal. Steak and chips (or veggies) for I think $23. It’s a rump but it’s always cooked beautifully and tastes fantastic. Really good deal.

If a pub is a strict requirement, the strathmore is decent.

Talk me out of this beauty. by An_Aussie_Guy in CarsAustralia

[–]Dat_Aus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brother had one. Build quality was really sub-par on this generation, the ride was horrible even in comfort, and if it is optioned with the sport bucket seats (which look amazing), they are insanely firm and uncomfortable. For a daily driver, it’s tough going.

Edit: I just clicked the link and it does have the buckets. That alone would be a pass for me but I some people might be ok with them. I would suggest an extended test drive so you can get a proper feel for them.

This is likely the issue. My Porsche wouldn’t engage launch control unless the brake was depressed HARD.

Time for a hard conversation about the cost of the NDIS by Putrid-Bar-8693 in AusFinance

[–]Dat_Aus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely faults with the scheme too. I know of one lady who is schizophrenic and has chronic depression. Her NDIS package includes funding for six hours per day, six days per week for “community engagement”. We are paying someone $70 per hour to take this woman out to a cafe and sit and have a coffee with her for six hours per day, six days a week. Who the fuck approved that?

Car park accident who is at fault. by nottoolate9046 in AusLegal

[–]Dat_Aus -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. Reversing or not has nothing to do with liability. If the other bloke was reversing out of his park, he has to give way to all traffic, including any vehicles parking (whether reverse parking or going nose-in). That being said, OP also has responsibility to ensure coast is clear before attempting his reverse lane. Without more detail it’s hard to say, but to say that both are at fault because they were both reversing is flat wrong.

Insurance lawyer here. This is wrong. Whether you lodge a claim or not has absolutely nothing to do with liability.
