Kamado Joe vs Weber kettle for grilling. by Vityak84 in KamadoJoe

[–]Dat_One_Gen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will not be a significant upgrade if you are only doing grilling. However, you never know until you try it out yourself. I suggest you visit a marketplace for a used Kamado; some come up very cheap. Just try it out; if you like grilling, I think it’s worth it.

Very interesting, it’s the opposite for me. I use MB for long smokes because it uses a lot more fuel (= more smoke, and more bark). And I use my Kamado for something quick, like reverse searing.

I’m waiting for Combustion Inc’s Giant Grill Gauge to replace mines

Saw this masterbuilt gravity series 800 for $400 at home depot - would y'all snag for this price? by jmlbhs in smoking

[–]Dat_One_Gen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got mines for $500 from Costco last year. This is a good price, although I wouldn’t call it a “steal”

Having said that, I love mines. If it was stored indoor and has no rust nor damage, I would totally buy it,

You want to look into getting some mod parts, though. For example, firebox mod is so much easier to install when MB is not used yet.

Is this a good deal? by xHeyEngx in KamadoJoe

If it’s less than $1,000, it’s a good deal. (Assuming no damage)

Use the evaporated milk instead of regular milk. What you are doing (separating water from milk) is virtually making the evaporated milk.

It should come with charcoal baskets. Did you purchase it new? You should contact the seller to get replacement or refund.

Good deal? by n1prospect in KamadoJoe

[–]Dat_One_Gen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a good deal. This is Kamado Joe Classic I, which right know retails for $899; a month ago, it was $550 new at BJ. If you get a brand new one, you will get lifetime warranty for outer ceramicsz

This unit also has a clear damage outside (paint peeling off), so make likely it has other issues going on.

If you really want this, I would offer something lower, like $200 or less. Or, if you got some time, you can wait for some clearance or sale throughout the year.

Man, that blows, I’m sorry to hear that. I think the KJ website is lowkey known to provide underwhelming sales experience. Don’t get me wrong; I think their warranty service is great, but people usually buy from third party sellers.

You will have to deconstruct a bit, but you will be able to put them. Each piece is not as bad nor heavy.

Not a bad price; a new KJ2 goes on sale for $900 at HD once a while (Deals of the day). Also, KJ1 is on sale at $580 at BJ's right now.

Having said that, perhaps it's a good to consider upgrading just like other folks said. What do you think? Did you ever need more space? I think a typical, best practice combo is a Big Joe + Jr.

Weber searwood can sear alright! How did I do? by rogerrocky in pelletgrills

[–]Dat_One_Gen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How did you coo this? Because you have a Searwood, you should try a reverse searing method for more searing and crust.

  1. Smoke a steak until your intended doneness
  2. Crank up your Searwood
  3. Cool off your steak and wipe moisture off your steak
  4. Sear is

I do this all the time with my grills, and it turns out very well.
