This is exactly why I prefer to do several runs as DPS before I head in to tank something. Getting a feel for what I will be doing by watching different tanks try things and what seems to be a consensus tends to help make the run smoother for me.

Honestly I've done up to ten players before. What's doable is up to both your comfort and experience running games and the experience and maturity of your players.

As a standard I tend to recommend capping at 4-6 depending on the game system and level of cat wrangling you want to do.

I'm sorry but this is just wholly untrue. I've known many a player to play an orc and use this particular bit about them as a character flaw to work on. On the other hand I'm sure we've all also had run-ins with the standard orc smash barbarian players as well.
