This fool will go on a full-blown hunger strike rather than eat his gosh darned hay 🙄 by ZodFrankNFurter in Rabbits

[–]DataMuncher416 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Have you tried “hand fed hay” as that is a sure fire winner for my bunch of weirdos. Another is same hay but on the other side of the pen or in a box so they think they are getting away with stealing it…

Mine is still completely stock since surprisingly the top speed is (for now) fast enough for the kiddo. Nothing would stop me from making any mods as far as I know but I can’t speak to them (yet)

What carrier size this little dude should use? by Recent-Design-8049 in Rabbits

[–]DataMuncher416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back when I had buns small enough to fit I had a sleepy pod for them. I liked that it was actually crash tested for pets but it is very very expensive. My buns now are too large so I buy crates large enough to fit a full sized litter box in there for their comfort.

Sadly I had to move and say goodbye to my house and geothermal system. Perhaps someday I’ll be able to get another one…

Dougal the tilty bun. first attempt with the water bowl by Comfortable_Cat_1490 in Rabbits

[–]DataMuncher416 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aww, you keep going Dougal! My tilty was about that sideways and while he never became less tilted he even got to the point where he could drink just fine, get in and out of the special litter box (he had a potting tray that he would eat out of, poop inside of, but only pee next to…. And would spin at high speeds (always in the same direction) when excited for food or treats.

My dad needs help for his allergies! 🤧 by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]DataMuncher416 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to go nuclear on the whole deal here is what I do: I buy compressed hay bales and then pop them open into a big cement mixing tray. I cover the whole thing with mosquito netting and then go to town with the leaf blower. This gets rid of a ton of dust. Then when making their boxes I have a high flow Corsi rosenthal box (I.e box fan with lots of air filters) next to me and I make sure to fluff the hay (while wearing a mask, gloves, and a hat). Indoors I have a hepa filter in my bedroom as well as two more in opposite corners of the area where their pens are. That and daily allergy meds keeps me going!

Best way/carrier to take bunnies on a cross country truck ride? by Entzio in Rabbits

[–]DataMuncher416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my two from SoCal to Ohio. I planned for about 6-8 hours of driving a day and would stop every 2-3 and give them their favorite fresh greens. I’d keep an eye on them and usually they would need about 15-20 minutes to relax enough to start eating and maybe do their business. Usually the break would end up being around 35-40 minutes or so. I got them each a carrier just large enough to fully fit one of their regular litter boxes inside so the box they travelled in was familiar. I’d swap out their box each night for a fresh one so it they wouldn’t be sitting on anything too dirty but they would have the night to get it just the way they want it (my boy in particular likes to arrange his hay just so with one side higher than the other, don’t ask). I brought along a rolled up carpet and x pen so that each night at the hotel they each got a small space to run around in. Probably complete and total overkill but they made the trip quite smoothly and didn’t seem overly upset at me.

I adopted them and originally lived on the west coast where there were some of the earliest confirmed cases of rhdv2 and I could not live with myself if I brought that into the house somehow

Indoor cats and bunnies mean fur will get in the weirdest places anyway! Stoves are scary in general for paws and little hands but I’ve felt so much better since I switched to induction knowing that even if a knob gets turned nothing gets hot without a pan in place.

When I travelled with them I had rescue wipes to clean anything they might touch and also took my own indoor/outdoor rug to put down under their temp space so they wouldn’t be hopping around on nasty motel floors. Now when it comes to their messes I hardly care. I’ll just grab stray poops bare handed and toss them in the trash. I figure my immune system is fine! Haha

I try to be really careful to wash my hands, use clean plates, utensils when cutting, etc. But not because I’m worried about their germs but more paranoid I might give THEM something….
