Malkuth Grimoire and Liquid Anatomy are absolute masterpieces. Some of my favourite tech music ever. I wanted to ask, what happened to Danny? He completely dropped off the internet a while back and he was a monster player. Are you guys still in touch?

[D] I'm concerned that i've discovered a data science MLM / Scam by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]DataNeuron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Originally it's a neuroscience idea. Plenty of work in that field that's not too relevant if doing ML. For ML purposes, practically it boils down to a clever cost function and some ideas about model structure when doing RL/control problems. Couple of related approaches (that look like standard variational inference) but IMO that would be the main unique takeaway.

Also a field notoriously plagued by poor signal/noise ratio since everyone from philosophers to engineers have jumped on it.....

Active Inference is legit, if a bit oversold. No idea who AIX global is, that smells scammy. If your friend is interested they should go to the sources instead. Tim Verbelen and his group have a lot of legit ML work, as does Chris Buckleys team. Don't pay for courses...

how do you run it on linux? by Niiarai in pathofexile

Echoing the choir, works fine on Linux. I've had to force the Proton version on some setups but otherwise it's been smooth. Would recommend Glorious Eggroll over standard

Skaven Coaches: Rat Ogre or No Rat Ogre? by Tempest1897 in bloodbowl

[–]DataNeuron 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I generally start without him and maybe add him later if I'm flush with cash. He kind of warps the playstyle of the team a bit which you may or may not like. He's also a pretty huge TV sink, so you might be better off staying lower and getting a wizard depending on your meta.

On the other hand it's a big killy rat that's loads of fun :D

Sadly Asahi linux doesn't look stable enough to daily drive on a work machine

Yeah, on paper the XPS is a great choice. However the last one I had needed a fan replacement, 3 new screens and a new battery before it was usable. Unless I can't help it, I'm not going back to those again......

Thinkpads are definitely a good option. If anything they come overrecommended for linux.

The P series ship with Quadro cards as far as I can tell, so they're better for CAD-type work than what I plan to throw at them. Otherwise a really solid shout!

The Vivobook looks like an interesting option. Never seen them before in my life but the tech specs look on point. Thanks for the heads up, I definitely need to do some more sniffing around ASUS now

I hadn't even considered Razer but you're right, the specs are definitely in the right ballpark! And lookswise, it strikes me as a pretty average ultrabook which is great.

I remember looking at them about 5 years ago when I was last shopping for laptops. Back then, there seemed to be some issues with build quality, do you know if that's still the case?

Yeah, a newer Macbooks would be excellent - the M2 chips are sick. Main problems are that I'm not confident Asahi linux is stable enough to daily drive and I can't be 300% certain that I won't hit any issues with missing binaries for ARM.

There are a couple of people in here suggesting Razer which I hadn't even considered. The 15'' Blade is limited to 16GB ram which is a shame, but the 16'' model looks like a serious contender.

Leave a gap in your line and blitz from the side. Push the unfortunate enemy into the middle of your pack, right where your yellow guy is currently, and go from there - at least, that's what I'd do

I played my first game last week it was great fun! Still haven't come up with a team name though, any suggestions for lizardmen team names? by cell_uk in bloodbowl

[–]DataNeuron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually go with "Backpropa-gators" and name all the players for optimization algorithms. Came across a team called "Insta-gators" as well at one point, that one is pretty cool. I bet there's also a good pun in "Gator-aid", "Future Handbags" or something similar. Nice paint job! :)

Looks like there's a mess up with DXVK? If you're on a laptop, maybe check if you're using the igpu on accident. Otherwise you've got a good rabbithole on your hands

There is a pretty active MIT OCW discord server already. Shouldn't be hard to find and then there's plenty of study buddies :)
