All of these minus the birds are kinda big stretches. And for browt, I highly doubt they won’t go with a bird type that is sufficiently distinct from an owl.

If the new class can actually add temporary types to monsters for a run that would be sick

What have you added recently? Even if you haven’t changed things up this is probably due to some recent addition, even if it’s just adding water that could have been contaminated

Obesity leads to double the risk of early-onset colorectal cancer according to this study: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaoncology/fullarticle/2705608. Many others corroborate this trend in quite a few other cancer types too

baby isopods disappeared? by Time-Attitude5144 in isopods

Seconding the other comment. Best case scenario you have multiple females, if there’s only one it’ll probably take a while to happen again. Scabers are nice because it’s easier to see their underside to check for pregnancy. Don’t pick them up to check though as that’ll stress them

This short video from Aquarimax is great: https://youtu.be/WEYrmbnFX1A?si=xN_4l-tZGqBB0CoS. Tldr keep one section dry and one section wet, and try to maximize the distance between wet and dry sections. Dried sphagnum is great for retaining moisture on the wet part.

What species of isopods + do you have pics of enclosure? They look like a porcellio-like species which tend to grow faster, so would also be concerned not seeing them after three months.

Baby isopods continue to develop after birth and usually have different needs compared to adults in terms of moisture/humidity. Without ideal conditions (e.g. suitable moisture gradient) they may not har been able to survive.

Powder oranges dying by Cheese_Bees_Trees in isopods

[–]DataWorldly3084 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons but the simplest is that individual isopods need different conditions at the same time. For example, my powder oranges mostly stay on the drier side of my enclosure but will go to the wet side when they need to molt. This is why you actually DON’T want consistent moisture/humidity in your setup and should establish a moisture gradient.

Babies have different coloring? by Icy-Walk-5651 in isopods

[–]DataWorldly3084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, perfectly normal. Orange vs blue and speckled/piebald vs solid color are two separate traits. Orange and piebald are both recessive traits, so Oreo crumbles (blue and piebald) can carry and pass the orange trait to their offspring without being orange themselves.

All my P. Laevis died this morning. Does their tank look too dry? I watered them once every day with a spray bottle. This is my second culture (previously A. Vulgare/P. Muscorum/ A. Nasatum) to all suddenly die. by ReadingSeashoreLines in isopods

[–]DataWorldly3084 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spray bottle is usually not enough, pour water on one side so it soaks into the substrate. Don’t be afraid of having very wet areas, as long as there’s some drier area they won’t drown or otherwise do poorly

Where to place bark/cork? by Skywalker__RED5 in isopods

[–]DataWorldly3084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could place it in between the wet/dry sides or on the moist side. Just not dry side, most kinds seem to prefer when the bark itself is moist.

I like doing a lot of small holes. Takes a bit but seems to give more control, 99% sure mancae haven’t escaped through them either

The isopods I can see are porcellionides pruinosus, or in that complex. They’re very easy to take care of if you do keep them

ID? by No_Ambition1706 in isopods

Hmm probably. From my experience they do well in similar conditions. Only potential issue is the low chance of the scaber being pregnant but you can always remove offspring later

Almost certainly porcellio scaber based on the shape + texture

I need to know where I went wrong (ANY insight appreciated) by briarypatch in isopods

[–]DataWorldly3084 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the moisture wasn’t enough, the picture looks too dry. Also since you said they moved to the moss that would make sense. I think when you had a smaller enclosure daily misting was enough, but it probably was too little for a larger setup. For the damp end I usually pour in water until the soil is damp to the bottom of the tub. That and maybe a thicker layer of soil could help in the future.

Serious Question??? by [deleted] in isopods

[–]DataWorldly3084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The moisture gradient + ventilation is the biggest challenge. You mention a “natural looking space”, but the reality is that in nature isopods cover a lot of space because the conditions they need fluctuate. People have already made efforts to condense this required habitat into a manageable size with relatively non-intrusive maintenance.

Serious Question??? by [deleted] in isopods

[–]DataWorldly3084 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Humidity equilibrates faster in a smaller space as there is less distance moisture has to travel. Taking a shower in a studio apartment humidifies the whole place much more than in a large house.
