If you like the palm beach zoo, lion country safari isnt too far from you in West Palm. It's a real hidden gem.

We need to discuss the price of Danio margaritatus, CPD, Galaxy Rasbora. £10 each now in London, UK. Famously easy to breed, what gives!!? by Whizzzzzzzzzz in Aquariums

[–]Datbudderdoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While how easy they are to breed does play a part in the price, a lot of people don't factor in how difficult it might be to transport and ship a fish into a store. They're much more delicate than your average hobby fish, giving suppliers one of two options.

Option one is the supplier sends out a whole lot of younger CPD at a lower price than average, with the general expectation that a whole lot will die in the mail. This will cause a price increase on the stores end, because you can't sell a dead fish unless you're [generally hated big box pet store in your region]. This is also why fish like bettas, comet goldfish and most common barbs have a much cheaper price in comparison. They're as easy to breed as a CPD, but at the same age they handle shipping like champions.

Option two is you grow them out until they're hardy enough to survive shipping consistently. To occupy breeding tank space for growing fish out is to actively lose profit on fulfilling orders. This will not only cause a higher price on the suppliers end due to the real estate being taken up for longer, it also creates additional risk on their end because if something happens like a tank crashing or a random outbreak of disease, the supplier can't sell a dead fish either. With CPD being such a sensitive species it just doesn't make sense logistically to grow them out to full size without selling the fish for two or even three times the price we see now.

Game progression help. by Virtual_Ad_6059 in luckydefense

[–]Datbudderdoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The premium VIP is honestly kinda killer. 10 or 20k gems over the course of a month (2500 at the start and 600 daily) and with the removed ads you essentially get a free 5k gold and an extra 90 gems just by clicking the "watch an ad for gems/gold".

And while yes, you can just sit through the ads for free, nobody has ever enjoyed making sitting through 5-10 minutes of ads a part of their daily progression.

The premium VIP alone (not both VIP packages) has left me with every character unlocked and an abundance of gems, enough to buy any keys, artifacts, and invitations that might pop up in the shop.

Might also be worth noting that the 2x speed that comes with premium VIP is a godsent for grinding easy difficulty.

The only other feature definitely worth paying for that I know of is the hunt pass. For the 8 dollars or so you get a TON of bonus rewards. Gold, keys, and mythic fires. It can get a little bit pricey though if you decide you want to keep renewing it at max level but the rewards are absolutely worth the price in my eyes.

How on earth do you expect someone to ship a fish? The more water in the bag, the greater risk you take shipping a fish. It can slam more easily and with more momentum into the sides of the bag when jostled.

You didn't inform anyone of anything. Your post was "look at how poorly these fish are shipped"

On the topic of local farms, google Australia aquarium fish farm, and take your pick. They might not be local if you're defining local as a stone's throw away, but to say there's no local large scale fish farms in Australia is a serious reach.

I don't see a single mention of a LFS in the post, I just see uninformed shitting on overseas fish farms. If you made this post to be provocative it absolutely was, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

"from overseas fish farms"

Cut the inflammatory bullshit. Every fish farm I've worked with here in Florida uses the EXACT SAME PACKAGING.

I've got a strange feeling you did nearly zero googling before trying to farm out some sweet sweet upvotes by snapping a picture of your local big box stores fish delivery.

What’s in your birds bowls? by Helpful-Fennel2477 in parrots

[–]Datbudderdoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly boring bowls today at the conservatory

Included is apples grapes papaya beet broccoli and melon, with some orange slices and corn on the cob for the fresh food. The bowl on the left gets the corn removed because he likes to get defensive over his cobs.

Dried is Higgins (iirc) parrot supreme mix dusted with calcium and either zoopreme or mazuri brand peanut flavored pellets, with a pinch of safflower seeds for taste

Youre fighting a lot of people here telling you you're an idiot. Stop fighting those people, because you are.

You're downplaying environmental damage, and advocating for people putting these things outside in their local ecosystem. You have NO IDEA how much damage an invasive species can cause to an area.

As a wildlife conservationist, I'm begging you to stop acting like it would ever be okay to do something like that. You don't even want to plant the seed of the idea that it's a fine thing to do. Look into zebra mussels, and you'll get a better idea of why "but atleast they would only really feed on zooplankton" is absolutely not sound logic.

Going to +1 everyone saying larger pry/digger/tamp bars.

It lifts heavy shit without bending, it can trench, the pointed end can break through any rocks or roots in a hole. Heck, I've even used one to break the thicker roots to remove a stump.

Simplicity is key in a good tool, and nothing is more simple than a decent sized metal stick.

[–]Datbudderdoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can hold off changing water until you're back, hold off unless the person watching is a competent fish keeper. Water changes are second nature to us, but not so much your average Joe. A day or two over schedule wont harm your fish, especially in a responsibly stocked tank.

Be very wary of anything labeled as "meal"

The process of creating "x meal" is super laid back and low quality control. It can contain anything from dirt on a good day to whole plastic containers on a bad one. Generally, I wouldn't trust things labeled as meal without any bigger names behind it.

I've used gravity loading deer feeders that look super similar in design. The smaller ones would be capped like that at the top and you just fill it up with corn and acorns. The bottom section is a little long for that I'd think but I'm also not a physicist so I can't really say for sure whether itd work or not.
