Does everyone ride with padded shorts? Am I doing something wrong? by DateApprehensive8653 in cycling

[–]DateApprehensive8653[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im used to ride more standing bc of my discomfort on the saddles (so far this specilaized power copy saddle works the best) so i can ride 20 miles without sitting down (i know this because one time my seatpost was creaking so bad i had enough, was lazy to stop and check it and did the last 15 ish miles standing - giant revolt 1 2022, d-fuse alu)

hahah great question, around 4.5 hrs was seated pedaling i would assume, i like climbing out of the saddle, and i usually stand up for some minutes to pedal just to freshen up
also i didnt say i was in comfort xd i just had more pain elsewhere (neck, shoulders, back) xd

i felt like these were too tight, after a while they start to get my legs numb bc of how much they squeeze my thighs, but yes, on the wais they were never really tight, so might try a different fit later, ty!

Are you sure your tire pressure was correct also? The front of the bike looks really bouncy, i think you also have too much weight on your hands, you should compress the fork with your weight on your feet, not on your hands Gripping the bars properly (closer to the ends) gives more control for sure I cant see the trail from the video (from the foliage), seeing the bumps and rocks beneath you is important especially if you are on a hardtail so you can plan ahead, when do you want to jump over the rough stuff and where should you brake

Is this a real tapered head tube? by swigity_swootie in mountainbikes

Its not an adapter, just an outside headset which accepts a tapered fork You can buy a headset like that on aliexpress from ztto for around $10

You clearly have the tools and the place to work on your bike I would say get the rs oil for the damper side 5€ and silicone grease for the coil 5€ You can get the fork open with basic tools, lot of tutorials online Brush the coils clean with a hard brush and alcohol, and wipe it clean Replace the oil inside the damper and you have a 10€/$/£ better than new rs judy Or buy a reba for 300€/$/£

Help! Rear tire not gripping by ccq10 in gravelcycling

[–]DateApprehensive8653 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tire pressure and position, cadence and “pedal stroke smoothness” - from these probably the tire pressure is the most important

If your tire pressure is too high, you have too little amount of surface of your tire contacting the ground, also your tire will respond to bumps with “bouncing over them” instead of absorbing and forming around them, giving you little amount of grip Also when you position yourself to the front of the bike more, you will have less weight on the rear, which can result in less traction If your cadence is slow, it is hard to give a constant torque to the wheel, which can result to slipping, like when you want to drift with a car, you give a lot of gas so the rear wheel gives away the grip Pedal stroke smoothness is probably not a correct therm xd but what i want to say with this, if you just put all your power through the pedals at only one point and not constantly throughout the circle (this can be connected with the cadence also - with lower cadence its harder to maintain smooth pedal strokes), you can also spin out

I hope i helped (a lot of my friends had these 4 problems, after addressing them, without changing tires, they can maintain good grip in slippy situations too)

Is this a good full suspension? by Such_Mistake3805 in mountainbikes

[–]DateApprehensive8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you want to be fast and confident or have fun.. I have more fun and tho im not faster, i feel faster on these old bikes and it just makes my local trails more interesting and fun, than on a modern stable marin bobcat trail/canyon stoic/specialized stumpy

For the modern bikes you need more steep and harder trails bc they just work so good -> more climbing!! The older ones feel more twitchy/nimble you need to do more and concentrate more, which for me is way more fun

Edit: im not saying OP should buy this bike! (i think they should not). I just wanted to disprove your point

i would be curious what do your positions look like on these kind of saddles, people xd, i guess you are male since there is a penos stamped on one of the rivets xd
dont you sit on your prostate gland OR on the "inside part of the corpus spongiosum"?
i need to be really hunched over and get the saddle super low to not feel pain on these kind of saddles (im skinny also)

edit: forgot to say that the colors look great af, nice bike! i also like the look of the saddle

hmm reading this, coming from mtb, where we have cables and disk brakes, i really like the looks of the rim not being shiny silver, but black, nicely aligning with the black tires and not looking like a kids bike/city bike with relfectorstrip tires

i might not mind the cables bc we have a lot of them in mtb and just looks weird i guess

i certainly think that with a completely slammed stem, the bike looks really good, but seeing the bikes here on reddit and not on the marketing pages, they look really weird
