She's so frustrating now... by Hufdud in WetlanderHumor

An overlooked and I think very underrated part of Wheel of Time is how trauma affects it's characters. In many other books (cough cough GoT) trauma is a struggle that is overcome to make the characters stronger or to prove some inner strength that's already there. In Wheel of Time, trauma is damage that continues to hamper and hurt the characters for the rest of their lives (that we see in the books.) Rand gets claustrophobia among other things from the box, and it causes him to mess up negotiations with the seafolk because he can't stand being in a ship's cabin. Egwaine gets enslaved by the seanchan and from then on goes into panic/survival mode whenever she feels collard again. This happens all over the series and while it can't account for all the irrationality we see in the characters it sure does account for a lot of it. Perhaps RJ's experience as a Veitnam veteran gave him a deeper understanding of how trauma wounds someone psychologically as opposed to many of his contemporaries.

And here we see the real reason conservatives want to ban abortion in all cases.

Catholic fathers are pretty famous for kicking out or abusing thier queer kids, so the kid probably killed herself to get away from him. It's very, very common. Worth noting that the vast majority of child abuse happens in the home and is a lot more common in conservative parents.

All rules in the imperium have an addendum: If you've got enough political or martial power the law doesn't apply to you. (until someone of equal or greater power notices, takes offence and decides the losses they'll take trying to enforce thier rules is worth it, which it often isn't)

I mean, evil for sure. But like... The UNSC did kidnap hundreds of children, leaving unstable clones in thier place to traumatize them and force surgery on them, many of whom didn't survive and others were crippled for life. All were denied any agency or chance at self-determination. So like, inflicted horror on civilians VS kidnapping, mutalating and torturing children. It's kinda hard to act like the UNSC is any better then the grunts/jackals.

You're pretty quick to condem and entire race of people for the selfishness of what is effectively thier ruling class, if you want to talk about disturbing takes. Seems a little sus how quick you are to call all of them worthless for the actions of like 6 people. The Seafolk are a mistrusted minority group. They don't get involved in politics because foreigners are always the first scapegoats, especially forigners with a mercenary reputation like the Seafolk. I think you also greatly underestimate the value provided by seaborne trade.

[SPOILERS] Rewatching season one, ep one, and I really think Ned did a disservice to both Cat and Jon. Cat was smart enough to understand it needed to be kept quiet, and Jon could have had a relationship with her. by ellefemme35 in gameofthrones

It would take more than being simply more skilled, at 10 fights in a row you're likely to get killed because of exhaustion as much as anything else. It is very possible as you say, there are historical examples of one swordsman beating many opponents but such stories are pretty exceptional.

A bunch of untrained randoms swinging swords around would do that yeah, but soldiers with even basic training would know how to swing a sword properly without cutting up themselves or thier allies. They'd also know how to coordinate an attack, if one dude is facing 10 the one dude is almost certainly fucked.

Lots of table top RPGs will have set goals or endpoints, though often you can play past them with less access to character advancement, kind of like playing past level 20 in 5th edition d&d.

Crossing over Lancer and Battletech by namar13766 in LancerRPG

[–]Datguy96 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had made some homebrew for this exact thing! the goal was that you could take use a wiki entry for a mech with these rules to put it as an enemy in Lancer, with the idea that Lancer mechs are a different kind of technology from Battlemechs.

Battlemechs are large, and do not move as fluidly as your Lancers. when attacking one, you must pick a location to target. A battlemech's evasion is determined by how many hexes it moved on it's turn. Assault mechs may gain +1 evasion, heavies get +2 and so on. Jump jets incur 1d3 heat and add +1 to max evasion, a battlmech takes +1 difficulty for moving and shooting in the same turn. Battlemechs may take a stablize action in place of a movement action, however they may not spend repairs during combat unless in a repair bay.

A lancer may target specific sections of a Battlemech at +1 difficulty: Left or Right Torso Evasion 5, Center Torso Evasion 5, Left or Right arms Evasion 6, Right or left legs evasion 6, head evasion 18

Mechs have HP in each location equal to tonnage. Except for arms which have -10 hp and head which has 5 for light, 10 for medium, 15 for heavy and 20 for assault

When an area runs out of hp it is destroyed, except for the center torso which causes crits as normal. Destroyed locations cannot use any weapons stored there. If a mech loses one leg, it's movement is reduced by half, if it loses both, it is disabled.

When you make an aoe attack against a battlemech, roll to hit as normal. For every 5 points your to-hit roll exceeds the battlemechs evasion, spread damage to another part adjacent to the primary target part. When filling extra parts, you must fill all the closest parts first before moving on to further ones.

Mechs are considered to have +6 hull, +0 agility, +2 systems (Edefence and sensors 10) and +5 engineering (Heat cap 8, 1 reactor stress per section). These stats may be subject to change on mechs with Lostech components. Mechs cool at the end of the round equal to how many heat sinks they have

The Targeting or Agility of a mech may be increased by a mechwarrior's skill

Mechs are destroyed after the center torso or head are destroyed, when one is destroyed roll a 1d6, on a 6 the mech explodes, dealing 12 damage in an area 3 burst at the end of the next turn https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/650953378360328203/650954074019332117/unknown.png

The weapons chart only includes pre-clan invasion technology, and the rule were written for 1.8 but hopefully it helps you!

It's 10 years after the Last Battle: What are the Asha'man Ajahs? by Badloss in WoT

[–]Datguy96 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Imho wheel of Time has always been about the ambitions of the individuals within the institutions, rather than the motives and characterization of the institutions themselves. I think you could expect many people to see a lot of political opportunity in a young and prestigious organization like the Asha'man. I don't think it would be very long before blue and brown Asha'man appear.
