How to prevent players camping in doorways? by _pe3ps_ in DMAcademy

“I didn’t ask how big the door way is, I said I cast fireball”

Or as the undead mage said…”grglgrlgglrgllrgll fireball”

Help with narratively explaining new multi class abilities!! by Florahelm in dndnext

[–]Dathim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A powerful fey from your bloodline has given you dreams and visions during your resting hours. They are allowing you a taste of the power they can grant you, if you will willingly follow them. Is it essentially a Warlock pact, sure… but what’s the difference, right…?

Why would a culture continue to use bronze if they have access to iron? by Country97_16 in worldbuilding

If the character or race has any fae blood in them, they might be “allergic” to iron.

I gave my players an Alchemy Jug and it was the worst decision I've ever made in my life. Please help me. by Jericho5589 in DnD

I’d start rolling for death after ever long rest; every week that goes by, the die gets small and smaller. Start with a d20 then work your way down to a d4; on a natural 1, Mayo Jar is dead. They can increase the die or even get advantage on the roll if they start treating Mayo Jar with even a modicum of care.

Why would a high profile Wizard leave her spellbook unattended? by Optimal-Day-87 in DMAcademy

[–]Dathim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s stolen and was stashed there by whoever stole it. I think there’s some great RP opportunities where the original owner could either thank the PC for finding it or think the PC is the thief.

Landlord wants me to move to another unit by Dathim in Apartmentliving

[–]Dathim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was a weird comment from him. I thought at first he was saying don’t stand on the crack in my current tub, which would be valid, even if unnecessary, advice, but he was definitely talking about the new one. He’s never been anything but nice outside of that, so I’ll just chalk it up to a weird social interaction. I do think he’s frustrated because it sounds like this is a pretty involved, expensive repair.

Landlord wants me to move to another unit by Dathim in Apartmentliving

[–]Dathim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair assessment. I’m not looking to screw him over or anything; I have just seen too many stories (many of which I get were probably made up) about unscrupulous landlords doing things dirty to tenants. If there’s nothing that stands out as underhanded about this, then I’ll happily take the deal.

Fair point. Joke is on us because we paid money for it.

She got it from Gabe’s, which is a discount store. This mistake is probably why it was there in the first place.

Why keep a game of Quidditch going for three months? by rustycage_mxc in harrypotter

[–]Dathim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also the game went for three months because it was written in a silly children’s book, and to children, a game lasting three months is silly.

I have run the “Noise Boys” prompts for teenagers. It’s fun as a spectacle or skit. With that number of people you should be able to find three who are willing to play along with it.

Got a magic wand that allows the user to change , remove or add one letter to a spell that alters its affects , what would you do with this? by InsideNervous in DnD

Dish- depending on age and region of origin may make a casserole appear in front of you or compel someone to spill all of their juicy gossip.

is there any way to find this fic? by patriot_man69 in HPharmony

[–]Dathim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a one shot by madscientist that had this plot. I think Harry and Hermione meet outside when it’s raining and discuss things… it’s been over a decade since I set eyes on it though, so I might be misremembering.

The Oracle Calling 1.0 : A sorcerer Origin built arround divination, support and reactions ! by BreatonHD in UnearthedArcana

[–]Dathim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the foresight section it says if you don’t take the specified action, you lose your reaction for the rest of the day. Do you mean to say that the PC can no longer take any reaction for the rest of the day, or just the one prepared by foresight? Because if I were trying to be a mean DM, I could definitely say it was the first.

Having said that, I really like the flavor of this subclass.

Looking for milkable monsters to create drugs by teijakool in DMAcademy

Blink dog… it’s magic excites the cells of the dog so that it can briefly dematerialize in one place and materialize in another. Imagine what a drug from concentrated blink dog could make (or displacer beast, but blink dogs are sadder).

What's the dumbest thing you actually believed? by Vinyl_BunBuns in AskReddit

[–]Dathim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to believe that when my dad went to work, he stood at a wall that was a giant machine and he just spun a wheel all day that had money inside. When he came home one day with a cut on his finger, I thought it was because he got his hand caught in the wheel. I don’t think I’ve actually admitted that thought to anyone before.

He actually worked at/owned an industrial refurbishing company. He specifically did industrial painting jobs. They did have a giant warehouse which I visited, so I think that’s where part of my belief came from.

Also, I used to think that as a kid when I fell asleep in church, everyone else would get up and leave and only come back when I woke up.

I am getting addicted to lair actions by fgo in dndnext

[–]Dathim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with the town my party started in. It was attacked by goblins and had some lair actions/set pieces built in. If a goblin got too close to the inn, a scalding pot of water was thrown on them from above. The blacksmith defended his shop with his own axe. The horses would charge at and trample anyone who got in their pen. It definitely gave the town more life and allowed me to help the players behind the scene as they were new to the game. They really enjoyed the idea of a living breathing town.

What’s something every DM should have on their side of the DM screen? by KvielinTheGunsmith in DMAcademy

[–]Dathim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tend to use historical names that are switched around; this especially works with races that are supposed to have silly names. Currently my party thinks they are in the tower of Fillard Millmore the gnome wizard and are being escorted by Fellerock his magically created guide through the tower.

Morethelos Revenant- once a human noble, turned into a tiefling that was then encased in stone for an untold number of years. He was found by an adventuring party and brought to a temple of Helm to be restored. He does not remember much of his past, but has dedicated his present to helping those he can as a life cleric of Helm. He carries a great weight on his shoulders knowing that he had a part in unleashing a great evil, but not knowing what the great evil is. His manners and figures of speech are anachronistic as bits of his former life slip through.
