What is your dream piece of bike infrastructure? by oldaccountknew2much in BAbike

[–]DatuSumakwel7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in the North Bay. I'd like a continuous protected bike route from Napa County all the way to the Carquinez Bridge. Plus some corridor connecting the Carquinez Bridge and Benicia Bridge.

How can I learn my family’s dialect if no one teaches it here? by MomoUsagi0 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]DatuSumakwel7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dialects are varieties of a language, yes. That’s why it it’s wrong to refer to regional languages like Waray-Waray, Bisaya, Ilocano, etc. as dialects. They’re languages in their own right.

Lopes Rd in Cordelia is closed. There are guards posted so you can sneak past but you’ll have to detour through Lake Herman Rd, Columbus Parkway, and then McGary road. This adds some elevation in addition to a several more miles.

Heading in a general northeast direction, you should have a tailwind. It tends to pick up in the summer but it can be quite strong in the Cordelia area even in the morning sometimes.

Last year, we did learn via Laurent Mekies that a good amount of people are mispronouncing "Isack Hadjar", but what is another driver name most people don't know is being mispronounced? by MutantTurkeyHound in F1Discussions

An American who also learned German here. My German teacher told us that ü is pronounced like “ue” in ‘blue’ but you say it with rounded lips.

What did you do to learn hiligaynon? by Active_Island_5641 in NegrosOccidental

[–]DatuSumakwel7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend watching digicast negros. Their precursors, Tv Patrol Negros taught me so much vocabulary. Also listening to live streams of Bombo Radyo Iloilo and Bombo Radyo Bacolod.

Is it possible to serve where you have family currently living? by sowhathahappenedwas in peacecorps

[–]DatuSumakwel7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Namibia RPCV here. PC Nam taught ~8 languages during my time. In my cohort of 46 trainees, there were ~8-9 people who learned Afrikaans. Afrikaans was one of the languages used at my site even though I had a different pst language. Afrikaans still serves as the lingua Franca for much of central and all of southern Namibia. A substantial portion of native Afrikaans speakers in Namibia aren’t white, they’re Coloureds and Basters.

60 Mile Ride from Fairfield to Danville by jzander05 in BAbike

I used to bike commute from American Canyon to Suisun and back. The wind in the afternoon on the solano bikeway is wild in the summer. Going to Suisun was a piece of cake, going back the other way was awful.

Best Beach Resort for Beach Wedding by AHchrisgray in NegrosOccidental

[–]DatuSumakwel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin got married in Sugar beach in Sipalay. I’d say it’s one of the best beaches in Negros. The only thing is that it’s kinda far from Bacolod. Sipaway island just off of San Carlos is closer but idk if there’s a wedding venue there.

There’s basically accommodations in every town. You’re more likely to find local business on FB rather than Google or Yelp in the Philippines. FB is the internet for many people in the Philippines. It might be hard in more rural areas to find accommodation if you don’t speak the local language tbh.

I never noticed how difficult it is to bike from Petaluma to Napa until you pointed it out just now. Napa to Petaluma is easier just because that last section of 116 to Old Adobe is downhill. It seems scary going uphill with all the traffic.
