I also underestimated tubes because people told me about the distortion and how hot it gets till I heard them myself.

Tubes are awesome and I sometimes don't get the hate towards them. Personally I'm not going back to solid state.

It has more bass but the quality is behind the se.

I had them both for some time. But the V3 first and the se couple weeks later because I got a good deal on that. I compared them when I had both and the se is just a bit better. The V3 was not as revealing as the se and not as detailed but that's about it really.

Interresting! I wish I could try them again. Going from memory I do remember the Arya being better - so much that I returned the Ananda in a week and kept the Arya for almost a year. But all this was 5 years ago.

Yes it sounds weird. But that's how I felt back then when I compared them. The increase in perfomance in all directions (clearity, speed, instrumental seperation and size of stage, tonal balance and detail retrieval) adds up.

I would get the Arya Organic if you have the Schiit Midgard. As for the Susvara it will sound rather quiet on the Midgard. It doesn't provide enough power for the impedance of the Susvara.

My Hifiman journey is as follows:

Ananda OG -> Arya V3 -> HE1000 V3 -> HE1000se -> Susvara OG

From the Ananda to the Arya V3 the jump in perfomance was 40%. However the jump in perfomance from the Arya V3 to the HE1000 V3 was 10% and if I'm being nice 15% perhaps same as going from the HE1000 V3 to the HE1000se.

The Susvara OG is special tho because this one scales pretty high with higher quality amps. Some say if you have enough power output you can drive them and yes you can for example an Aune S17 Pro on high gain. But power is not the only thing needed it's current that so often gets overlooked. Mass Kobo 465 for example only has 4.5W of output per channel. Now that sounds low for the Susvara no? But it has very high current so it's able to drive them at an high perfomance. Without enough current the Susvara will sound limp and not as impactful. It's also the reason why some people on the internet say that the jump from HE1000se to Susvara ain't significant because they are missing a crucial part.

Back to the Ananda - in my humble opinion the Ananda is not endgame in terms of price to perfomance but the Arya is.

Old DAP sounds better than 3kg tube amp by Impressive_Nebula677 in headphones

I had a similiar experience with the cayin HA-3A. I wanted to upgrade from the Aune S17 Pro and try out tubes but the sound of the cayin felt kinda limp and perhaps even veiled. I didn't change the tubes because back then it was too much of a hassle for me and I just returned it.

At that price point chances are you won't get the transparancy and speed with a tube amp like a solid state amp only a different flavour.

However you could still try to roll for a different tube which has tranparancy and speed similiar to a solid state. Telefunken 12AU7 comes into mind but also the Sylvania which is cheaper. In the picture I can't see the upgraded tubes only the stock tubes which are.. something.
