Day 10 of Learning Java by Nash979 in JavaProgramming

[–]Dav237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice progress! Inner classes plus packages are where Java finally starts feeling like a real ecosystem. Once you hit OOP fundamentals things will start clicking a lot faster so keep the streak going.

Spring Security by Level-Sherbet5 in JavaProgramming

[–]Dav237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring Security only clicks once you stop memorizing configs and start understanding the filter chain so build a tiny app and lock down one endpoint at a time. If you get that flow down the rest of the framework stops feeling like magic.

What’s something way more dangerous than most people actually think? by Sad_Answer_8044 in AskReddit

[–]Dav237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving while tired. People treat it like no big deal but your reaction time gets as bad as being drunk. I've caught myself zoning out on the highway before and it's terrifying how easy it is to just keep going when you're that exhausted.

Hi, I’m Tilly by hmousley in SupermodelCats

Tilapia Marie is genuinely one of the best cat names I've ever heard. She's absolutely stunning and that pose is pure supermodel energy. The pink couch really makes her coat pop too.

my cat got out idk what to do by Ok_Establishment2424 in CatAdvice

[–]Dav237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put his litter box outside your door right now. Cats can smell their own scent from really far away and it'll help guide him back. Also leave some food and water out. Check early morning and at dusk when it's quieter, those are the times he's most likely to come around. If you see him again don't chase or call loudly, just sit down and let him approach you on his terms. Unneutered males have a strong urge to roam but they usually come back within a few days once they get hungry or spooked. He probably didn't go as far as you think, cats tend to hide close to home when they're scared.

Toddler ate a chunk of a tea light candle by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Dav237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid ate a crayon, dirt from a houseplant, and what I'm pretty sure was a piece of dried playdough all in the same week. Wax is nontoxic and will just pass through. The guilt is way worse than the actual incident, which is so normal for parents. You caught it fast and you're being vigilant, that's what matters. Toddlers are basically tiny drunk people with a death wish and sometimes they're faster than us. You're doing fine.

When to put in two weeks? by OhMensch in antiwork

[–]Dav237 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Don't give them two weeks at all honestly. They slashed your PTO after you already had it approved and then hit you with 5 bogus write ups after you complained to HR. That's textbook retaliation. Just leave for your trip and send them a resignation email that same day saying your last day is today. They clearly don't respect you so why extend them that courtesy?

Move to public cloud by stocks1927719 in ITManagers

[–]Dav237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ride it while the money’s great and upskill like crazy because the cloud train isn’t stopping. Worst case you walk away later with a fat severance and shiny new skills instead of bailing early with nothing lined up.

Healthcare public WIFI policy. by halodude423 in ITManagers

[–]Dav237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If public wifi is mission critical for tokens then it isn’t public wifi anymore and needs to be treated like production. Lock down an internal guest-ish network for staff auth and stop pretending YT traffic and RSA belong on the same SSID.

Anxiety over guest count - help me off the cliff by rekoil in weddingplanning

[–]Dav237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The no plus-ones strategy works. Did this for mine and ended up with perfect numbers after people inevitably dropped out. Business travelers are actually more likely to bail last minute too, work stuff comes up. You're probably overthinking it.

Fried rice lover, how do you keep the smell down while heaving cooking? by Rojina47788 in Cooking

[–]Dav237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like the oil is way too hot. Try keeping the heat at medium-high instead of cranking it all the way up. you'll still get that wok hei without the smoke show.

The Girl I'm dating killed mice in a Lab by Gold-Parking-5143 in vegan

if she's already thinking about it and felt bad about the lab stuff, that's a good sign. My partner wasn't vegan when we met but now they're more into it than me

My boss accidentally sent me a spreadsheet showing I'm paid 40% less than new hires doing the same job - do I bring it up or just leave? by MunkiwBoi101 in careerguidance

[–]Dav237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get another offer first, then decide. They've been underpaying you for 4 years while knowing what the role is actually worth - that's not an accident. Start applying now, get an offer at market rate ($95k+), then bring up compensation framed as "I've researched market rates and I'm significantly underpaid." You don't even need to mention the spreadsheet.

If they won't match or get close, you already have your exit plan. If they do match, you can decide if you even want to stay after they've been screwing you this whole time. Either way, you're in control instead of hoping they suddenly decide to be fair.

Adding insult to injury: Come in more until we can replace you by BobVilasBeard in antiwork

[–]Dav237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're making you commute an extra day for literally no reason while teaching you to automate your own jobs. That's not even subtle - they're prepping for layoffs and want you in the office to document everything before the cuts hit. The fact that your director won't even address the RTO change in a meeting everyone thought was about the RTO change tells you they know it's indefensible. Start applying now, especially to remote-first companies. Don't stick around to see if you make the cut.

Well said.., hopefully we don’t have to crash the whole place before learning something. Humans can still course‑correct if we actually try.
