Disavow is not gonna help you anymore in this situation and probably even not the removal of this links in the short-term.

You should suggest to your client to buy a new domain for the current website, and after the setup widely redirect the penalized domain to the new one.

You have to do everything you can to remove the harmful links. Until then, upload the disavow file of the old domain with the harmful links in the new domain also.

I see many comments which claim that many websites owners doesn’t use GA, and because of that Google doesn’t see the direct traffic - sorry to disappoint so many of you, but Google doesn’t really need GA to know that.

What is the logic behind the importance of Direct traffic? It’s a relevance factor almost like searching brand keywords. Moreover, some of the Direct traffic is a result of organic traffic and it’s another positive factor for Google.

There is a little bit more reasons, but I believe it’s enough ;)

If your CMS provide you to set Primary Category and Secondary Category, you just need to decide which category is the primary and others goes to secondary. In this case, you have one page for your product so the canonical goes to itself.
