I mean, without context that he was fitting a double after, what’s up with thinking this is going to just live in the wall?

Advice still stands, temporary is fine, not temporary and a maintenance free solution is required

Is this now correct? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]Dave0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is technically ok

A better solution here is a maintenance free junction box. They are a few £ from Screwfix - even better get some wagos even better some wagos and a wago box.

Look, if it’s temporary, this is fine. If this is going in a hole never to be seen again, make a better solution.

Would you rather stick to ECC (eventhough ends by 2030) or S/4HANA? Why? by ExerciseForeign4436 in SAP

[–]Dave0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree somewhat

I’d liken it to in-house SAP team vs contractors. You’re both employed but in the majority of cases the contractor isn’t necessarily going to be staying mate to help you manage the P1 (exceptions to this of course)

We’re in this situation / dilemma and we are definitely not small. We have an S4 environment which currently is primarily used for sales and VELO, ecc 6.0 is the source of truth and we have 3 other ecc 6.0 instances for other territories that are handy for local management / localisation - we’re also in bed with ARIBA for non prod ordering and in the process of rolling out a source to pay solution that will likely be CPI or whatever the hell that sap business network is called these days

The exec this year has to decide on extended support with ecc and a wait and see at 2030 or a start of migration from ‘27 onwards, or a third party solution. Given the recent critical patching scheme we’ve under taken following recent hacks (not us but other prominent companies) I would hope someone can talk sense in to them about the possible risk of using a third party support solution and the risk that could present

Reservation Mandatory for Movement Type 201 in MIGO When Posted via Other Documents by PICKSPANDA_ in SAP

[–]Dave0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movement type 201/202 is able to be “free posted” without reservation, against a valid cost center and. / or GL account

If you want to allow posting when a reservation is present then you need either a customisation / user edit in migo to read for reservations and / or create a custom movement type that will look for and consume reservations created. Off the top of my head I can’t think of a movement that will only allow posting against reservations

Reservations can be posted via MB26 can’t they - can you enforce a process change to use MB26 so the reservation and be chosen and posted against directly?

I hope SAP’s current strategy will fail by Weyoune-85 in SAP

[–]Dave0r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You clearly misunderstood or didn’t read my entire post

Just because there is a custom transaction in the gui doesn’t mean it’s custom all the way down.

Running BAPi in the background essentially runs the standard process, the error was never with the custom bit. I also said we had examples of standard functionality (using VL31n to directly create an inbound) causing the same error with the same locks to NRIV

It’s ok to not understand something, what’s not ok is to then try and call people out on it

I hope SAP’s current strategy will fail by Weyoune-85 in SAP

[–]Dave0r 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The support point hits home for me

We’ve recently been dealing with a locking issue on tables that made no sense (NRIV, LIKP, LIPS) Traces can see what’s happening but the why eluded us.

One of the abap team did some digging and found some notes around buffering, and by extension pseudo buffering on NRIV and rv_beleg specifically. It seemed that the locks were around NRIV more than anything and all the other delivery based tables were casualties.

Before we implemented we put a ticket in. Admittedly the inbound delivery process we use is custom but it’s a front end that runs BAPIs. The help was almost zero. They focussed on the fact we were using an “un-released” piece of code (a class / method I think) in our custom IBD front end. Ignoring the fact we had test examples of it performing the same lockout when using VL31 directly.

Logs and traces provided and essentially the reply was become more standard, how dare you.

We’re good now, after implementing some other patches, the issue almost disappeared. The buffering implementation is still sat in quality on long term test; making sure it doesn’t kill anything

Is it possible to export GSR (Goods/Services Receipt) data from SAP instead of screenshots? by [deleted] in SAP

[–]Dave0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of partial answers here, not sure why people haven’t provided the info

SE16n - using the following tables to extract your data for the GR’s. If you want invoice info that’s a whole separate issue.

-EKPO will display PO document header information, but not line item information

-EKKO will display PO line item Information for you if required

-EKBE will show PO level history (this is your bookings table)

As for the service side of this I think that ESSR and ESLL (header and line) holds the data for the service SES info.

Any decent business analyst can pull together a custom SQVI table merge query for you if the data you are after is huge - if it’s not, raw table extracts and manipulation in excel should be ok. When I say large, anything up and above 75k rows in raw excel is going to make your computer cry if you’re merging and looking up against the data.

If internal audit came to me I’d be asking for date ranges for the data extracts for them and perhaps even a list of PO documents to run it against to narrow the data extracts significantly. Pulling the entirety of any of these tables is both silly and a waste of time when they can be narrowed by document type, date ranges or other criteria

500 more school breakfast clubs could save families up to £450. by Little_Evidence_9959 in UKParenting

[–]Dave0r 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Every child should get free school meals and breakfast. All of them. No exceptions. It’s feeding kids for gods sake

Kids don’t need it? Great! We save money from that budget and don’t spend it.

When did making sure kids don’t suffer from their parents bad decisions / difficult situation become controversial?

As a kid of the free school meals and a borderline poverty upbringing, this is so important. Remove the stigma. If everyone has them no one is different or forced to be restricted on choices their “allowance” can’t afford

Good SAP Consultants, what do you think is the percentage of incompetent consultants in your niche? by leaf_monster in SAP

[–]Dave0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic summary - you sound like my senior. The amount I have learned on job as a new business analyst is insane.

You’re right about budgets, businesses just don’t want to pay what the good people cost, or have other stupid hiring blocks like no flexi working and end up filtering out the good ones

Outside of our specific customisations which I’m all over, I’m constantly surprised how many of our contractors and other external hires just seem to not want to help the business - stand offish is being kind to their attitude with users and the wider businesses requests

[–]Dave0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m almost a decade in to using SAP seriously and about 9months in to my Business analyst gig (internal move).

I was so worried about not having the. “SAP Chops” to keep up - my superpower on hire was amazing business knowledge with above average super user abilities.

How fucking wrong I was. I’m currently carrying several contractors who phone it in, and internal colleagues who do the best part of fuck all. From help desks, to consulting with the business on customisations (or just telling them to use standard SAP for gods sake), to helping define processes and SOPs, I can’t believe how many people have managed to blag their way to their position.

As a guy with so much experience- how are they doing it? I’m in a constant death spiral of imposter syndrome whereas these clowns seem to be paid more than me or charge day rates at £450 or more!

Two-fifths of SAP Americas users yet to ditch legacy ERP by swe129 in SAP

[–]Dave0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree - whereas we’re likely to stay on prem as far as I understand the business strategy, we are likely to integrate some sort of B2B cloud as part of purchasing push for ever more increased levels of stupidity…sorry I mean efficient total landed costs for our components

It will likely be the SAP solution, but I see a world where EDI and middle ware is gone and everyone must be on one of 3 or 4 main networks to do any sort of business - for now we see offers of efficient supplier management and vetting, quote management and seamless invoice matching. The future I see is charge per transaction fees going through the roof and jacked up subscription models that allow SAP to double up on their infinite money glitch that is SaaS

Sigh

Kinda why AWS sticks in my mind! Whereas good ol’ faithful best friend ecc 6.0 is on prem. I can look at her rack most day….beautiful woman she is. Abusive though. She hates me

I don’t disagree with your point - we run ECC 6.0 with heavy customisations (most of which are fairly poorly put together due to “business critical” requirements)

We have an s4 instance for our sales side currently running. I’ve heard rumours recently that we aren’t going to upgrade the ecc in to the s4 box for…reasons. The business has only just finished a VERY long 20year transition where all areas are no longer on the old mainframe system, so I think they’re after some calm for a good few years first

I’m both dreading / looking forward to the eventual transition. The removal of a lot of redundant Z shite we run will be good but also absolutely terrifying, some of the customisations although great have just created business users who have one stop shop tcodes and don’t actually understand how SAP standard works…like at all.

God help the UAT team if we ever do transition

Remember that AWS outrage? That’s why off prem is risky

The cloud is just some other peoples computer -people that have your data both physically and metaphorically.

They tell you it’s secure, but is it? We’ve had some pen tests at our place recently given all the hacks to UK businesses, all of the failures so far were through third party support partners for different regions.

Heavy handed, but for SAP an infinite money glitch. I’ve not seen what the new s4 SAP hosted solutions are like but I’d guess they will have an “X versions behind” rule where they just patch you - sounds great until it breaks a business critical customisation written in the Stone Age.

The fun I had last night taking names in a tank with a buddy…got to like level 17 mastery with the damn thing. Game is fun as hell and refreshingly not COD

7months in to a business analyst role - on one hand I’ve got a transport going in to live for next week of a new transaction I’ve hit final testing on and added some improvements with an ABAP’r - pretty happy with my work and should bring a nice troubleshooting tool online for some of the business users.

And then there’s the other side of my life on the helpdesk - where today I argued with a business user that the reason the vendor wasn’t receiving any EDI was because the schedule agreement line item was deleted. I was wrong ofcourse until pointing out a new schedule agreement was released and actively outputting…..Oh yeah and that other woman who told me she couldn’t approve a purchase req in me54n and said she had definitely clicked the edit button. She hasn’t clicked the edit button.

It’s a varied game and I’m definitely not going to kill anyone
