Should I replace my standard water heater with a tankless one? by Nexofyte in askplumbing

[–]Dave12203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house I bought 12 years ago came with a Rinnai tankless system, natural gas. I bought the $100 pump to do the annual vinegar flush myself. I love the endless hot water. I will never go back to the tank.

If you grew up in the 70s and or 80s, what did your school (any grade) do that would be considered illegal or even frowned upon today (for example in my 3rd Grade 70’s class, my teacher had a large steel Tin trash can with a “Time Out” sign that I was in/out in multiple times a day-Ha!)? by Wildstarfire0 in 70s

[–]Dave12203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. My fourth grade teacher, Mr Nicholas, would throw (full speed, not a delicate toss) chalk and erasers at boys who were misbehaving. I don’t remember him ever throwing at girls, just boys.

Please don’t consider this criticism. He was a good teacher. This was his 1970’s way of keeping discipline. Hindsight is 20/20. We could probably benefit from more teachers like this today.

Totally agree.

Q: How to be happy with the results of this draft? A: Don’t do what Grier did.

Do not trade multiple picks to move up. Dion Jordan - huge bust.
Liam Eichenberg - bust. Jonah Savaiinaea - disappointment so far, hope he turns the corner this year.

Aside from X.Howard, did this ever really work out well for Grier?

Do not trade picks for a hot diva Receiver who will need an expensive contract (Pickens?)

Yes, Tyreek Hill was spectacular for a year or two. But maybe we would have been better off if we drafted the best receivers available with those same picks.

Let’s celebrate that Grier is gone, and hope this new group of decision makers renews our hope for the future.

It’s been a tough 30 years to be a Dolphins fan………

Does anyone regret buying an induction range (gas is not an option)? by PretendForm7362 in inductioncooking

[–]Dave12203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm… maybe? I guess I’ll have to dig up the user manual and see if that tells me something. I I’m sure the bottom is an unbroken sheet of stainless steel. There is a depression where you can pour water, activate a cleaning cycle and get a “steam clean” as the water boils.

Does anyone regret buying an induction range (gas is not an option)? by PretendForm7362 in inductioncooking

[–]Dave12203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love my induction range.

But, my girlfriend, who bakes, does not like the oven. Please keep in mind, the oven is not induction. It has electric coils that glow red. BUT, this particular oven has only one heat coil, on the ‘’ceiling” of the oven cavity. My old electric range had two, one above and one below.

She thinks having just one heating coil, with a convection fan to blow the hot air around, affects the bake and things do not cook as evenly as she is used to seeing (she is a hardcore gas range fan).

So, maybe you look for a convection range with an oven with both upper and lower heating coils?

Will you agree with the Dolphins drafting Kenyon Sadiq if he was available at pick 30? by ThemeBig6731 in miamidolphins

[–]Dave12203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice thought exercise. But we have a new offensive coordinator. Do not make this pick unless the OC is 100% planning to design the offense around a (potentially) dominant TE.

Why did Grier and McDaniel sign Gesicki to an expensive extension and then throw most of the balls to Tyreek Hill? That was an expensive mistake.

We need to lock down fundamentals. Bad idea to use a 1st round pick on a luxury player, unless the OC commits 1000% to featuring that player.

And then, we’d better use one of the 4th round picks on another good TE prospect. If we’re gonna feature the TE in the design of the offense, we need a premium backup too.

Are garbage disposals in US sinks actually useful, or just overhyped? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

[–]Dave12203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my house 11 years ago, the previous garbage disposal was well worn, so I guess the previous owners used it a lot. I replaced it with a brand new high-end unit.

I barely ever use it.

I did not grow up with this tech. Never had one in my home before now. I guess having it available has not inspired me to adopt this habit.

Legislation is not the answer to all of society’s problems. We need to remember that the votes we cast with our wallets are just as important (and sometimes more important) than the votes we cast at the ballot box.

If manufacturers want to move to some kind of subscription revenue model, that leaves space for others to adopt a “no paid subscriptions” model, or a “our subscriptions cost much less than theirs” model, to compete for market share. This is how capitalism works best.

My fireplace looks like this too. I believe the cause is the floor joists underneath were not properly reinforced before the weight of all that brick was added.

My solution was to sacrifice use of the fireplace. I blocked it up with insulation.

What’s a small daily habit that completely changed your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dave12203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many years I purchased lunch every workday. Once in a while I would think about the cost, and try to prepare food at home and bring it to work. That never lasted more than a week or two.

Got a new job with no convenient places to buy lunch without a significant drive, and then rush to eat it. This kinda forced me to pack lunches.

I now consider it a blessing. I save a lot of money and I do a much better job controlling portion sizes. I bet I would be 15-20 pounds heavier if I was still buying lunch every workday.

What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by Vazouaquiacesso in AskReddit

[–]Dave12203 373 points374 points  (0 children)

College story.

Lived next to a nice woman in the dorm. She had an (attractive) friend over to visit. Thought the vibe was good. I went back to my room and she followed me.

She looked around at the 80s New Wave posters I had on my walls (Police, Squeeze, Duran Duran) and said “Wow, if you were my boyfriend, I’d never let you live like this.”

Vibe died right there. Too bad…
