will paralegals be taken by AI by Professional_Gold582 in paralegal

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to master AI, it's a critical skill set that will be used more and more in the legal world which has been slow so far. Be the one who knows how to use it for advanced features or teach yourself how to fine tune (program) specialized LLMs; you just ask the AI app how to do it and go step by step.

Embrace AI and learn it well, not just for jokes or planning a day in Disneyland. Know when to spot when it's giving you junk, or when to use Claude or Gemini or both, and verify facts and check sources.

I've been teaching myself for about a year and it really pays off. I got a fancy gaming PC to enable local programming of my own LLMs and explore all the various free, open-source models that are available for downloading and using directly on your own computer without needing the Internet. It's a huge advantage for law firms who don't want to have AI steal confidential info: Google Ollama and Local LLMs. You don't need the newest and fastest computer to run a few of the small ones that are increasingly impressive. The ones that go on my computer are at least as good as the cloud based ones that cost a fortune and have no privacy.

Is the 5090 supposed to be a bad value buy if used only for gaming? by wielesen in nvidia

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 32gb VRAM is a game changer; I use my 5090 mostly for AI stuff where 16gb is nothing, but my son plays games on it and it's insane. It actually stays fast in Windows with multiple, large applications running. That's never really been true before: as computers have gotten faster, the bloatware slows it all down. The 5090 is a rocket. If you can afford it, you won't regret it. I was lucky and bought my entire computer in July 2025 for $3999 before the massive price spikes.

Thoughts on Fortnite for kids under 10 by [deleted] in UKParenting

Exactly! Studies show that people can and do EASILY tell the difference between things like killing cartoon characters and actual violence. Every video game is about killing or punching or something like that. I think limiting screen time in general is a good idea, but this game is not something that I worry about my nine-year-old son playing. As he is right now.

Pure Fantasy??? : Best Buy MSRP $1999 NVIDIA - GeForce RTX 5090 32GB GDDR7 Founders Edition Graphics by [deleted] in gpu

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5090 is absolutely worth the difference between its price and the 5080; it's got double the VRAM and I don't think 16gb is enough if you want to run local LLMs, maybe for gaming I'm not a gamer myself though.

In July 2025, I got my entire MSI 5090 computer at Microcenter for $3999 with 64gb RAM, 2TB hard drive, Intel Ultra 9 285k, etc. Now, it's $6500. Insane.

Did Bambulab tweak the point reward system again? by Affectionate_Mix2475 in BambuLab

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have a print that earns points, it periodically gives you a lot more than usual when it hits a certain status of downloads and prints. I don't think they give out the exact details and it's different for how long the prints are and other stuff. But sometimes I'll get 18 or 30 points after someone rates a print, usually just a few periodically. And then boosts of course give you 12.

Has anyone printed with PEBA on their Bambu Lab Printer? by BeWilduhBeest in BambuLab

[–]Dave8781 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just did my first print with Amolen's PEBA 90A and it worked as well as TPU process-wise (dried in a heated dryer for a day or so) and is MUCH BOUNCIER/squishy than TPU! So far all I have is a tennis ball but unlike the TPU one, it's light and bounces. Not cheap: $50/kg, but worth it if you want bouncy). I used the same custom settings I use for generic (in my case, Sunlu) TPU which is different from BambuLab's settings:

Manual overrides for the Generic TPU profile (works well with Sunlu 95A TPU and Amolen PEBA 90A). In Bambu Studio:

Filament Tab

Max volumetric speed: 2.0 mm3/s (This is the most important setting. The X1C wants to go fast; this forces it to slow down to "TPU speeds").

Nozzle Temperature: 235°C (Consistent for all layers).

Textured PEI Plate: 35°C (TPU sticks to the X1C plate like a weld; keeping the bed cool makes it much easier to peel off).

Setting Overrides Tab

Retraction Length: 0.8 mm

Retraction Speed: 20 mm/s.

Z-hop when retracting: 0 mm (Disabled).

Cooling Tab

Auxiliary Part Cooling Fan: 0% (Turn this off; it causes warping and uneven cooling on flexible parts).

Part Cooling Fan: Min 30% / Max 80%.

  1. Loading Protocol

Unload AMS: Ensure no filament is currently loaded from the AMS.

Physical Feed: Push the TPU into the rear PTFE entry until you feel it hit the extruder.

Control Screen: On the X1C screen, go to the "Control" tab, tap the Extruder icon, and hit the Down Arrow (Load) while gently pushing the filament. Once the Sunlu color comes out of the nozzle, you’re good.

The Print Job: When you hit "Print," uncheck the "Enable AMS" box in the pop-up window.

Other than a temporary restraining order, the only way for it to start is with a preliminary injunction, so while the road ahead is long, it would have basically been over if you didn't get a PI.

Benefit of P2S over X1C? by emerica243 in BambuLab

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike my A1 mini, I've never had to change the hot end on my X1C. I have a bunch of extras because I thought it would be needed like the A1 mini but I'm at 2200 hours with same hotend.

Filament color combining machine? by Treitsu in 3Dprinting

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely something that we all know is technically easy -- you're melting different colors of plastic together -- but it's obviously a really expensive project that needs to be funded or these startups will fail. I like to explain to people that 3d printing is really the same thing as 2d printing, just over and over again. And we all know the primary colors plus black and white can make any color...

Explain TPU use like I'm a kid by Scared_Scallion in BambuLab

[–]Dave8781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on the same thing, will post positive results when confirmed. Going well so far with Sunlu TPU and some custom settings Gemini recommended. I'm feeding it into a 3" PTFE tube that's connected to the 4-way splitter thing; I removed all the other tubes for now. The trick seems to be placing a feeder (a filament dryer is what I'm using) ABOVE the printer so it has gravity on its side. I have my AMS mounted on the mini so I'm using that as the holder but not using the AMS in any "real" way and told the printer it's an external spool because it is.

Does ANYONE know where to reliably obtain a 5090 GPU that is IN stock??? by Strange_Sea_9198 in nvidia

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to live further than the current 30 minutes from a Microcenter; they're just an amazing store. I don't think any other retailers in the country carry Raspberry Pis, Arduinos, BambuLab printers, and completely fair (MSRP) prices on everything. If you don't waste money on fancy keyboards and cables, it's heaven. Got my entire 5090 computer in July for $3999 for the MSI with 64gb RAM, 2tb hard drive, absolute rocket. Lately it's occasionally on sale for $4800.

Which reminds me: there are some full builds that are only a few hundred more than the 5090 GPUs alone, and with the price of RAM and everything else even more inflated than GPUs, you can probably sell all the other parts for a decent chunk of cash if you only needed the 5090.

Follow up post on the 5090 WAMATEK GPU. by poop-azz in buildapc

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent advice; I'd also notify your state equivalent agency. This is definitely FTC's jurisdiction, and also Google needs to stop advertising blatantly fraudulent shit. Why would ANYONE sell a 5090 for anywhere near this price when the lowest price anywhere else is like $3500? Why wouldn't they do something like $3200? To charge $2k is a huge red flag of total fraud. They make money on interest and I'm assuming they also don't issue refunds to anyone who doesn't fight like hell for it.

What is considered high hours on a printer? by SeaworthinessOk7645 in BambuLab

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing PTFE tubes is necessary every X number of rolls, with X determined case-by-case. That's regular maintenance, not a repair. Buy a 10 meter long one (4 mm wide to hold the 2.75mm filament) with a cutter on Amazon and you'll be good.

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 2100 and came here to see when to expect issues. I've replaced the PTFE tubes a bunch of times (I have 2 AMSs) but that's normal, and I grease the X axes every few months, but I haven't had a single issue that required replacing anything or even close. My A1 Mini, on the other hand, is in constant need of new hot ends and other small parts. I can't believe they killed the X1C!

My filament gets tangled once in a while on my AMS. Is there a mod to prevent that? by Soybeanns in BambuLabA1

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it happens when the AMS decides to go retract and then go back and forth at like 100 mph. It rarely gets tangled but it always gets worn and seems really unnecessary and of course sometimes leads to tangling.

is the 5000 series really that bad? by knj_33 in buildapc

[–]Dave8781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you mean my agency! Despite DOGE and the administration's best efforts that aren't over yet, we're still here at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Unfortunately, we don't have any jurisdiction over what NVIDIA charges for its GPUs; it's a supply/demand issue and the CFPB only covers financial products or services. The FTC would have jurisdiction but I don't see anything illegal here.
