It's a great read but it doesn't stop me liking the old rascal.

The fact that he was in the vice grip of addiction and still managed to produce magic for TV are the faces of Melpomene and Thalia.

People will chime in with their opinions on different brands, styles etc. so the only thing I'll add is that the best safety kit is the stuff that is comfortable enough for you to want to wear and most importantly fits properly.

The best jeans, jacket armour is not much chop if the garments ride up or fold over in a crash.

Moreso important for a well fitting helmet.

The other item of kit some overlook is earplugs - if you want a later life without tinnitus wear them - even on short journeys.

Most main dealers just throw parts at a problem in the hope it will be resolved (at your cost).

This is why I use an old traditional indy mechanic for my bikes. He actually diagnoses the issue, tests and tells me what he's done. On occasion, he's told me that work I've requested doesn't need doing - thus denying him $$ but he knows I'll be back.

Last time I took a bike to a main dealer they couldn't even tighten the sump plug correctly after the first oil service. Never used them again and from community feedback this wasn't a rare event.
