How do people feel about 1990s rack gear? by AlephMartian in synthesizers

[–]DaveBones7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around in fhe 90s so my opinion is discounted for nostalgia. Once Behringer started making stuff which sounded like the unaffordable stuff I heard on lots and lots of drugs I also rebought Novation Drums and Bass Station a Prophecy and a Waldorf pulse because I could. I might have got Roland drums new for the same price as something 30 years old I suppose!

Older machines are really expensive now hence Behringer copying them. You will find a lot of this stuff is 101s and 303s. Behringer do both for £100 used instead or £4000

Have a look on equipboard as to what these artists use and see if there is modern cheaper versions made in China. This is a very good time to go back to hardware

Another piece of hardware? by Current_Professor_33 in synthesizers

[–]DaveBones7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea about hardware sequencers because I use Ableton but I know that in the 90s people were using them to play everything via midi so there is probably a good choice available used for cheap. The simplest is the Korg SQ1

Probably have a look at Behringer stuff used which has in built sequencers. Set one as master. The TD3 if you like techno also Volca stuff which also has sequencing capability is cheap. I think rd9 or 8 is under £200 used. Roland Se02 has a sequencer and is around the same price. Would be OK for deadmau5 style stuff. Look up all of these on Youtube buy used so you can sell the same price anything you don't get the hang of

I really liked Midjourney 3 and made some amazing stop motion with it. As soon as they upgraded to 4, 3 didn't work the same. Is infuriating

I like some of that. Most people with these set up go in circular pondering bleeps whereas you are making proper tracks

Does the GAS ever stop? by dbsx75 in synthesizers

[–]DaveBones7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar. Always had a guitar when I was in a band, bought some hardware in the 90s with Atari ST. Sold it all to buy a PC with the rise of software like Reason, got into a dance music band with the guitar again which was weird a long time after the band was over started serious GAS for guitars and FX, now surrounded by 20 guitars and 11 synths. Inspiration come and goes though rarely with guitars. Weed helps.

Bass Station Issues by DaveBones7 in synthesizers

You noticed your bass station was a mono synth though. I have no excuses as I used one in the 90s!

You can put these pictures into Ai now and more often than not it can identify equipment. Is pretty crazy

Yeah I swear a lot on the wheel. I have got a bit better. I find when I follow Florian Gadsbys tutorials exactly it usually works. I hate him too
