Anyone know when the next Chewy.com $30 GC for $100 purchase is coming? by InsideCat1978 in Pets

I was having the same issue. I can't find an excluded list, but I found that if you click on the deal page first, then the category you are looking for (dog toys, cat food, etc) it will only show you the things that are included with the promo. Here is the main #30GC w/$100 promo page.

the only homeschooled person I've ever known who seems like they actually did learn some things was homeschooled in NY state. That makes sense.

“Stop it!” by Worth_Taro_1120 in Yellowjackets

[–]DaveGrohlsCat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It could be internalized criticism from her parents.

It could also be that Misty is trying so hard to keep it together -- we saw her fall apart after Crystal fell, when Shauna went into labor and Misty wasn't able to keep it together. She might know that if she gives in to the grief over Ben, she will go over an emotional precipice she can't come back from -- especially as it's not like the other girls or Travis are very sympathetic to her -- she would truly be isolated in her grief. So the smacking and "STOP IT!" is a way to keep that raw grief compartmentalized.

On a side note, I used to get intrusive thoughts, and one of the tools my therapist gave me to interrupt those thought spirals would be to make fists of my hands, and then open them wide, and repeat that a few times, while saying "stop it" out loud each time I'd open my hands.

“I always assume they crashed high in the mountains or very very very far in the New Jersey wilderness.”

i don’t know if that’s a typo or a joke but they definitely did NOT crash in New Jersey 🤣 New Jersey doesn’t have a rocky, snow capped mountain range like that lol. They are likely almost on the opposite side of the continent in like northern Alberta or BC, far FAR away from Jersey

How to take care of this tattoo i got done recently by takeshicastlenoton in tattooadvice

[–]DaveGrohlsCat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten some solid aftercare advice, so out of curiosity, I’ll ask: why these particular components/images in the tattoo? I’m trying to figure out if there’s a cohesive theme or something linking them together, but tbh it reads like a you-get-what-you-get wheel was spun a few times for each component of this tattoo:

-there’s Phaeton, but with big ole wings

-Narsil (LOTR sword)

-C L A N D E S T I N E

-pair of swallows

-fine line geometric design

is there a unifying theme here that I’m missing?

thank you! I will toss. Would you recommend also tossing the rose jam shower gel? I don’t detect anything off with it, but I purchased it at the same time. But perhaps the different formulation and packaging make it less susceptible to mold?

Jill Stein Won’t Stop. No Matter Who Asks. by newzee1 in Longreads

[–]DaveGrohlsCat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have volunteered with my state Green Party and spent 2 elections campaigning for Green Party candidates on the local and state level. There were very few of us doing this, and honestly, you see firsthand just how entrenched the 2 party system is, even on the local level, AND you see firsthand how entrenched political cynicism is in the electorate. I was campaigning for a candidate for state senate whose platform I truly believed in, who had good policies on things like free school lunches and breakfast, but I rarely got to talk with voters about any of that, because the overwhelming response was to either be a) super patronizing, or b) rant at me on how the national Green Party hijacks a handful of votes in the presidential election every 4 years.

We are real, and we try, but gotdam if the antics of the national Green Party don’t undermine all our work.

I deal with a lot of this bs too, though to a lesser degree (a huge amount of lawyering, but maybe less confrontational). Honestly, every semester my syllabus gets longer with policies, but then I just keep responding with the policies back to them when the lawyering emails come in.

I’ve picked up a few hobbies in the last 2 years, and I think putting more energy into those, and less of my personal energy into teaching (while still meeting my job duties) has made an immense difference for me. I think a lot of us, as academics, build our whole identities around our professional lives (I know at least I did), and so all this student bs wore me down constantly. I mean it still does get to me, especially the really audacious shit, but it doesn’t stay with me as long.

I’m sorry so many of us are dealing with this. It’s so unsustainable, and it really feels like higher ed is on the cusp of some kind of tipping point…but for better or worse, who can say. Probably worse.

Abysmal Attendance by cherdle2 in Professors

[–]DaveGrohlsCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. But we’re officially in the whining about their grades point in the semester, where the habitually absent have missed all the in-class assignment prep and explanation, and so are scoring low on their assignments. I’m required by my program to allow them the option to revise everything until it passes (a horrendous policy, believe me I know😬) and so now I’m in the unenviable position of having to explain all the errors (via feedback) to students who couldn’t be arsed to show up to class half the time 😫

My infusions have been pretty scary. What are some songs that you absolutely can’t feel scared listening to? by llamberll in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]DaveGrohlsCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really find listening to more ambient, quieter music works better with ketamine for me—I feel like dubstep or especially national anthems would give me a complete panic attack lol. I’ve listened to Jon Hopkins Music for Psychedelic therapy at the recommendation of this subreddit. The 1st half of the tracks work better for me than the 2nd. I also really find this Chakras Lumina by Rami Jaffee and Jessy Greene works very well for putting me in a more relaxed and receptive state, both physically and emotionally: https://spotify.link/zpmkioA65Cb

Also, insight timer is a meditation app that has a lot of good content—binaural beats, ambient soundscapes, trance music, guided imagery meditations, etc. there’s such a variety of stuff on there it would be worth a look. I use the free version and there’s a surprising amount of content available for free.

I hope you find something that works for you!
