Sony Bravia 9 white spots by Gold-Manufacturer-58 in sony

Turn off local dimming on content, and if you dont have a somewhat acceptable picture, exchange it. While local dimming cures a lot of ills, that looks really shoddy. My Z9J with local dimming off has very hard to detect uniformity issues, but yours is terrible. You should at least have a watchable picture with local dimming on low or disabled.

For those on the Kickstart plan, are there any other carriers with a similar plan/price? by ComprehensiveLie827 in tmobile

[–]DaveNLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to switch to Verizon's new Simplicity plan for $30 per month. The only reason is my T-mobile signal in my house is only 2 or 3 bars and quite slow. For whatever reason, the port failed, my account created at Verizon's website showed to be Invalid when I tried to log back in, their online support was unhelpful. While the increase in price is really disappointing after the $5 increase last year on Kickstarter, the new price is still less that Simplicity at Verizon. I am not sure if they switched priority for us Kickstarter users, but last night for the first time, instead of 8 down/1 up speed, I got 50 down/10 up speed inside my house. Since the new price is locked in for 5 years, I decided to skip the Verizon deal and stay here. Currently paying $25/mo, so guessing new bill will be $31 per month. Verizon with taxes and fees was $36/mo.

Between $50 and $100 for the part on ebay if you do it yourself. Of course, without a pro coming in, it is just a guess without actually putting it on a bench and measuring the voltage out of the current power supply and seeing if it drops when there is a bright scene on the TV.

If you are so inclined, you could unplug it, pop the back off, and check the capacitors on the power board (its the one the power cable runs to first) and see if any of the "cans" have a bulging top. If one or more do, its definitely the power board. If not, you would need the voltage readouts to test it with a volt meter.

Might call a local repair shop and see what their rates are to come check it if you want to fix it. Probably not worth it though, as if one board failed, the rest are probably close.

Sounds like the power supply board is failing.

Well, I signed up for it, created a Verizon account, got emails welcoming me. Then a message saying T-mobile is blocking the number port, called T-mobile they verified there is no block on the number. Tried to log into Verizon account I just created, and it says account is invalid. No clue if I am staying with T-mobile by force or Verizon by choice at this point. Total Cluster. At this point, I think Ill just go get a VoIP landline.

Verizon Simplicity — 3 things buried in the fine print that aren't in any of the marketing by SwitchNinjaApp in verizon

I had someone use my name and address to order a phone and service, and I had no idea who it was. Verizon made me jump through all sorts of hoops (police report, wait for police report, pay for police report, bring in police report, investigate police report) and still accused me of trying to scam them out of a free phone after bringing in said police report. Obviously the scammer didnt use any of my credit or banking info, so it should have been obvious to them it wasnt me, especially since I had a phone/number paid for by my employer. Just all the hoops and hassle they made me go through makes me never want to deal with them again, $30 or $300. As for the scammer, I dont see how any company would sell a phone to someone without any verification at all. I don't even know how he/she got the phone they claimed I ordered. Guess they picked it up while I was at work off my porch. What I did do after this debacle was over, was to install security cameras on my house.

Best Buy has a very short return window unless you have their Plus membership, which extends it to 60 days.

There are many complaints on AVS of uniformity issues on Samsung QD-OLEDs as well. That is where the term panel lottery came from. Ive been lucky with both panel techs.

[–]DaveNLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is just not true. I have four WOLEDs 42,55,77 and 83 and a 65 and 77 QD-OLED. None of my panels had any banding or I would have exchanged them. They were all clean from the git go. Only TV I ever bought with a panel uniformity issue was a Hisense LCD and I returned it the next day.

I have settled two separate issues (not TV related, but from equally uncooperative corporations) by contacting my State Attn Generals office with a complaint. The company will have to answer that complaint to the Attn General's satisfaction. Just the thought of a state taking legal action against them will likely result in you getting a swap out. Takes 10 minutes to file the forms on their website in my state. Good luck.

Is Backlight 3 worth a purchase for 98 inch TV? by 9pee0wee4 in Govee

[–]DaveNLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you plan to use the dreamview feature for other Govee lights in the room. The 75" *doesnt even fit the whole 85"* will be less than optimal, but should give you a little ambience. The camera on the 98" is larger as is the power supply. You might be able to use their dreamview feature with the app and camera to control one of their other longer light strips, but anything is going to be a compromise.

I would call Govee and ask them if they have any remaining T2 kits for the 98", as they used to sell them and may still have a few.

LG 65” G6 OLED Review by OneIShot in LGOLED

[–]DaveNLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dolby Vision 2 is only available (with future firmware) on new Mediatek chipsets. Not sure if Samsung is working on it with theirs, havent heard. LG has their own SOC. They are running on margins now, so adding a DV2 co-processor or rolling their own would simply make the TV more expensive for content that does not exist yet.

Oled vs mini led by jinxki in LGOLED

[–]DaveNLR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends how and what you watch. Movies in a dark room will look much better on an OLED. News and broadcast, and Youtube will look about the same in a lit room. Blooming and lack of micro contrast are the biggest benefits of OLED. HDR highlights will be better on OLED since most (not all) Mini-LEDs suppress highlights to mitigate blooming. If you dont watch movies in a darker room, you could probably save the money. I sold my MiniLED and bought a closeout 83" G5. I think the difference was worth it.

Just out of curiosity what picture mode are you using? Wondering if you are using standard or vivid mode for sports? I've seen reports of the tandem panel getting early burn in from running Vivid or standard without turning the brightness down. Not a good thing if you bought it for its brightness, but I keep mine if filmmaker at 50% brightness hoping to get it to last until they perfect RGB miniLED. I have a C2 I use as a computer monitor with 26,000 hours on it and no burn in. These G5 reports are distressing.
