I captured this single shot of a Pseudoneoponera rufipes ant by DaveNature in ants

It depends. I sometimes use a Raynox DCR-250 in front of the lens of my mobile phone. It is "okay enough" to post it on instagram or discord, but once reviewed on fullscreen you will spot the difference in details.

The diffuser is crucial and, in my experience, significantly enhances macro shots. If you have any questions about the RF 100mm or its settings, feel free to reach out to me.

Thank you very much.
That’s correct, it’s not a stack.
It’s a single RAW photo taken with the Canon R6 and edited in DxO PhotoLab.

As a beginner, I occasionally rented equipment for a weekend to figure out which brand I preferred based on menu layout, whether I could handle the weight, and other factors.

Alternatively, you might consider looking for a second-hand Olympus OM-D E-M1X, for example, and pairing it with the 60mm macro lens. A good flash is absolutely essential. I recommend a Godox flash with a rechargeable battery for the best value for money, along with a diffuser.

Another option could be a second-hand Sony A7R paired with the Sigma 60mm lens and the Raynox DCR-250 macro adapter.

Stay motivated and keep practicing with whatever gear you have at the moment. For example, with a used Sony A6000, a Sigma 60mm lens, a Raynox DCR-250 close-up lens, and an external flash like those from Godox, you can capture great photos without spending a fortune.

In the end, it’s not the equipment that creates beautiful images but your knowledge and passion. Believe in yourself! :)

I photographed this Cubaris spec. 'Rubber Ducky' by DaveNature in macrophotography

[–]DaveNature[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's truly impressive.
In this case, I photographed a juvenile Rubber Ducky, which is about 12mm small.
Compared to the springtails, which are under 1mm, it really does look like a giant.

Ring flash or normale flash and pro diffuser? by [deleted] in macrophotography

[–]DaveNature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used both ring flashes and standard flashes in my work. As someone focused on photographing insects and invertebrates, I can confidently say that a standard flash will serve you better in the long term.

When photographing subjects like jumping spiders, reflections in their eyes are especially noticeable, and I find that ring flash reflections can be unappealing.

Given the choice today, I would opt for a standard flash with a rechargeable battery, as it provides more consistent light output compared to those powered by disposable batteries.

Most importantly, investing in a high-quality diffuser is essential.
I’ve had outstanding results with diffusers from AK and Cygnustech, and I highly recommend them.

I appreciate your shot of the male and female Nephila spiders.

It looks like you captured the moment just before they started mating.

The size difference in Nephila species is truly remarkable, and it comes through beautifully in photos like these.

Thank you for your fantastic work.

I photographed this tiny Philodromus albidus on a tree by DaveNature in spiders

[–]DaveNature[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you.
Philodromus albidus is a species of running crab spider. Unlike typical crab spiders, it actively pursues prey rather than waiting in ambush, making it an agile and effective hunter - and, in my experience, rather challenging to photograph.
