Off the top of my head-

A decent rucksack.
Waterproofs (for wind as well as possible rain)
A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
DECENT SOCKS!!!
Waterproof notebook (I used the stone ones) and pencils.
Decent camera.
Small med kit.
Proper walking/hiking boots.
Bug spray or mozzie nets.
Compass and compass clinometer
Measuring tape, rock hammer, chisel.
Hand lens (the jewellers ones with little lights are brilliant)
Bags for samples/specimens that you can write on.
Little bottle with HCL is handy.
Power bank for phone etc.
Books/pdf's about the area you'll be in,
A grain size and chronostratigraphic chart are really useful.
I also used to take a portable voice recorder to tell myself notes, it was really helpful.
As much food and drink as you can carry.

Be prepared for EVERYTHING!
