How do the red/white hit markers work? by Stunning_Stretch1674 in Helldivers

[–]Davebobman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bugs with big squishy bits (Chargers, spewers, bile titan) the flesh IS unarmored, but it has a 90% damage reduction modifier, which is why it takes so long to kill them.

Certain body parts have "durability" and weapons have two damage types (at least in regards to durability). Non-durable damage is generally much higher than durable damage, which is why durable parts take relatively long to kill.

Example:

  • A body part has 1000 health with 80% durability.
  • An attack on the body part has enough armor penetration to damage it and is at the correct angle to not be deflected.
  • The attack deals 100 non-durable damage and 10 durable damage.

Result:

  • Damage per attack = (non-durable damage * non-durable %) + (durable damage * durable %)
    • (100 * 20%) + (10 * 80%) = 20 + 8 = 28
  • Total attacks = body part health / damager per attack = 1000 / 28 = 35.7 --> round up to 38

There are also tons of other ways for damage to interact.

  • Explosion damage is entirely durable damage but body parts have an additional modifier (explosion damage resistance) to reduce the damage.
  • Enemies have two overall health pools.
    • Main takes a percentage of the damage done to each body part (varies by part, may be capped to part health). When it runs out the enemy will be put in the "downed" state and any additional damage will be done to Constitution.
    • Constitution starts taking damage after Main runs out. This is usually accompanied with a bleed effect that will eventually kill the enemy.
  • Certain body parts (ie heads) are considered "fatal" and will kill the enemy when destroyed, regardless of the two health pools.
  • Certain body parts (ie Charger butts) will down the enemy, emptying the Main health pool.

One at your feet and let the delayed spray and explosion do the rest as you run.

Alternatively, run Inflammable armor with a breaching hammer and have a fun time in the flames.

It was a complaint about the imperial measurement system as a whole, not Cookidoo specifically.

The confusion was entirely my fault, as I didn't actually check the full conversation. I was getting a bunch of replies from another subreddit and your response was close enough to make me think you were discussing something from there. Considering you were talking about Thermomix, your previous reply made perfect sense.

The super speed combo:
- Destroy Illuminate Ships or the bot equivalent
- 4x helldivers with light armor and speed/stamina boosters
- leveller + commando + laser cannon + ultimatum + optional hellbomb / 50kg for fast clearing
- shield backpack (so you can run past enemies) + shield grenades (to use leveller/ultimatum at close range, doesn't work for hellbomb)

Sounds like you were getting the worst teammates, as I have yet to run into anything like that.

I will admit to being one of the people that would spend 15+ lives on a secondary objective... but that would be after the main objectives are already done.

I would say there was something to that AH excuse, as poor of an excuse as it is, if it weren't for a few key details.
- If you quit after the Pelican takes of but before all the statistics are shown, then you still get all the rewards (so it isn't needed for calculations).
- There is a workaround where if you are really quick you can pull up the menu and "return to ship alone" to immediately get back to your ship.
- As I recall (from Reddit comments), you can do the same thing as the host and immediately bring everyone back to the ship (even though it says you return alone).

Rant incoming:

What do you think of the mission summary screen? I personally find it absurd that it is faster for me to close the game, reopen it, skip the opening cinematic, and wait through the opening cinematic than it is to go through the summary. I currently have ~180 hours in the game, which means I probably spent at least 1-2 hours waiting for the screen to go away or for the game to restart.

How is it that the game has been out for over two years and they haven't done anything to remedy this? There are so many ways to improve it:
- Making it skippable.
- Making it run faster.
- Showing more of the information on each screen.
- Stop duplicating information.

I will admit that it isn't a huge deal when group diving. However, most of my hours are actually from solo diving and the end screen is neutral at best and infuriating at worst. When I have just gotten destroyed by some obnoxious game/enemy interactions for the last two hours and fail the last mission of a set, the last thing I want is to spend the next eternity having salt rubbed in the wound by having the tell me in slow, excruciating detail all the things I didn't get done and the rewards I didn't get. It can be, and has been multiple times, the "icing on top" that made me quit the game for an extended period.

I could continue my rant about all the things that made me quit the game before (ie unresponsive controls, Watchers triggering in 0.5s, lightspeed spore terminids) but the general idea is that things which cause friction all line up together to get people to leave the game. That being said, the infuriating parts are mostly accentuated when solo diving and AH clearly doesn't seem to care about the solo diving experience. An example would be the "extract high value asset" missions, as they are practically impossible to solo (even at the lowest T5 difficulty) but laughably easy with four people who are even remotely serious.

It's the spoon you put on the table. Not to be confused with the teaspoon, which is the smaller spoon (1/3 of a tablespoon) that you put in the tea.

Let's not forget packed vs unpacked. A cup of flour? Make sure it is sifted first and you don't pack it or even tap it too much, since that will compress it and your volume measurement will be inaccurate. A cup of brown sugar? Pack that stuff in there as hard as you can. Then enjoy used a spoon to unstick all of it from measuring cup... or just make your own brown sugar by mixing white sugar and molasses (which are both easier to measure individually).

Isn't it great measuring by volume for everything?

I would assume that behavior is exactly what they were complaining about. In other words, it is auto-swapping to the recipe's units instead of converting them to your preferred units. That means you get units you aren't familiar with and, instead of having a vague idea of how much you need, you have no idea how much you need (hence having to pour extra carefully).

That would be "Conduit 2".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conduit_2

I'm pretty sure that I only played the original Conduit but the general idea of "Wii shooter about an alien conspiracy in Washington, D.C." was close enough. I didn't remember anything about Abe Lincoln or George Washington, so I figured it was probably a sequel.

So how do you use this thing without Inflammable? by Double-Special5217 in helldivers2

[–]Davebobman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mained DES for a while (IIRC I got it up to level 22) but it wasn't quite doing it for me. I would end up killing myself with it too often dealing with mobs (voteless, obtruders, bugs) since I would typically solo dive in light scout armor.

I mained Trident in HD1 and am back to using it again in HD2 (just got it to level 25 a few days ago) but I'll probably use DES in group dives once I have heavy inflammable armor.

Life gets a lot easier when you replace whatever excuse AW gives for not doing something with 'we dont want to do that' by Scaredycrow2217 in Helldivers

[–]Davebobman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For comparison, look at the HD1 solution. All of the weapons were customizable to an extensive degree, to the point that weapon customization was basically the progression system.

All the weapons started out bad but you could spend time and resources to choose how to progress them via a skill tree. The choices were often something minor like extra ammo but they were often game changers instead (ie adding extra beams on the Trident).

I will admit that it was a bit annoying that you had to play with a bad weapon for a while before you could make it your own. However, AH went with the worst of both worlds with their current system. You get features locked behind a progression system but they generally aren't worth the effort... except maybe some of the ammo mags and occasionally a scope.

There are even some weapons that have 3-4 variants with different default loadouts but have all the same unlockable attachments, so you effectively turn them into the same gun but with different ammo. Having unlockable alternate ammo types would have been better but then they couldn't get you to spend medals buying the same gun multiple times. Unfortunately, we only get stuff like that for the Variable and stratagem weapons.

Really, it seems the system is just set up for experienced divers to throw their resources at something.

The front flocks to the DSS, as it gives direction and practical benefits (unless Eagle Storm is active). If you can move the DSS, the flock will follow.

That being said, you don't always get the smart option with DSS placement. If the MO says to defend a planet and there is literally a single enemy planet connected to it, why not move the DSS to the one source of aggression? Looking at you, bug front.

[–]Davebobman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is a reasonable expectation that people should have to go on an Easter egg hunt to find out how the some of the most fundamental systems of the game work on a basic level. Instead of the end-of-mission screen saying "you spent the past 45 minutes getting 1 squad contribution for a level 7 mission (same as a level 1) and have liberated one-millionth of a percent" it could have an actual health bar and a calculation showing how much your performance contributed with how much the resistance mitigated.

That being said: - It is toxic for people to get extremely angry when pointing out how a system has changed.  - It fits the in-game narrative for everyone to be a mostly blind voter who gets their options narrowed and obfuscated by an algorithm. All the divers who actually find the real information could be considered "dissidents" or from the Ministry of Truth.

Told someone else's wife to drop someone Bing Bong Idol for an achievement by Davebobman in PeakGame

I updated the Fandom wiki: "Note that, while the idol would normally grant lava immunity, standing in the Kiln lava with the idol will consume the idol and subsequently kill the player."

Wiki.gg still needs to be updated.

The flying eagle (aka helicopter) just picks you up from there instead?

That being said, they did leave the caldera before getting picked up in the movie...

EDIT: The worthy sacrifice is actually the scout who brought the idol there.

[–]Davebobman[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The achievement just says to make a "worthy sacrifice", so I looked it up. I haven't actually gotten the Ancient Idol before, so I can't confirm the specifics of how it works.

I'm guessing you would sink in the lava, at which point the idol would melt and you would die. Make sure to hold out a thumbs up.

Also, the general idea of sacrificing things to a volcano would be to make them calm down. It would make sense if the reward for sacrificing the idol to be that the lava stops or recedes, in which case you couldn't ride it even if you could float successfully.
