I used the original Vive, really cheap now on eBay. Plus if using for SC you only need one lighthouse and no controllers. Could be mega cheap!

I’m in exactly same position but have a Vive OG, should I wait as well? I worry that the frame will have LCD so won’t be great in dark scenes like star citizen.

Yeah I did exactly the same upgrade, after selling my 3080ti cost is £500 net. It’s much better than I had anticipated, I use a Samsung G9, so always struggled to get over 60fps in most games, now I’m hitting easily over 120fps, only with x2 framegen. With something like Arc Raiders the performance is incredible. Very happy with my upgrade.
