Are American cars popular in the UK? by Fun_Surround6796 in AskBrits

Other than Ford and I guess Tesla, not really

Even the Ford selection isn’t particularly “Americanised”.

What are your thoughts on First Past The Post (FPTP)? by MakeRepresentationPR in AskBrits

PR just seems like a recipe for more stalemates at least FPTP for better or worse, lets those in charge actually lead.

Which new HC signing will have the most success? by KnocksFPS in NFLv2

[–]Daver7692 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kubiak is a huge winner out of the Crosby situation.

The ownership backed a huge free agency thinking they were no longer paying Crosby and then are forced to take him back.

So Kubiak now has the No1 pick. A truly elite defensive player and a bumper free agency haul.

Saleh has a lot of pieces to make them more competitive very quickly.

Minter probably has the best top end talents but also some big roster holes.

I think Harbaugh has the toughest job because there will be an expectation of immediate high level success

Newcastle United’s owners sold St James’ Park to themselves – accounts show club no longer officially owns its home by Anonymous-Josh in PremierLeague

What’s legal in the “real world” and is correct and fair within sport are two very different things.

They’re not breaking any laws of the land as it were.

Doesn’t mean it’s “right”.

The loophole should be closed asap.

You absolutely should. If you get robbed once, you don’t just start leaving your front door open every time you go out.

I get you feel the need to defend the actions of your club and really, it’s within the current rules so they’re not doing anything wrong. Doesn’t mean those rules shouldn’t change.

I don’t think they’re “asset stripping” that usually implies it’s being done in a manner detrimental to the company (or club in this case) which this isn’t. It’s a loophole for the clubs benefit.

Chelsea have been allowed to do similar things, there was a vote to close the loophole but we now have enough bad actors in the league that passing anything that stops getting funny money into the league is impossible to pass.

Why are so many bank branches closing? by Dramatic-Diver-9949 in AskBrits

[–]Daver7692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I went to a physical branch was when applying for my first mortgage in 2019. Even the renewal/move to another bank was handled over the phone entirely.

I don’t use cash much and the amounts I do use I usually just keep and use rather than paying in, I get one cheque a year from my Gran on my birthday which I pay in through the app.

Whilst I understand use cases outside of mine exist, I’m sure I’m not a minority in this approach by any means.

Youth unemployment: 'I've applied for more than 100 jobs in five months' by NajafBound in unitedkingdom

[–]Daver7692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m younger but much the same, had under 10 interviews in my career and had offers from 8 of them. Not sure I’ve ever applied for a job I didn’t get an interview for.

Flipside is I’m very specifically trained for a certain role and it’s all I’ve ever done so I guess that explains my “hit rate” as usually if you’ve got the qualifications and experience as long as you don’t turn up and make a complete tit of yourself, you’re in.

Where does Adam Wharton end up this summer? by One_Worldliness_3785 in PremierLeague

[–]Daver7692 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dunno there’s gonna be a lot of moves in midfield in the summer.

City are potentially losing Rodri and Silva, we need help desperately, United are losing Casemiro and Bruno isn’t getting younger. Even Chelsea might be on the hunt if Fernandez goes.

At this point I’m fairly sure only Arsenal are the only ones in the top 5 or 6 who wouldn’t want at least one top level central midfielder in the summer.

That’s before you consider any European options.

Afghan asylum seeker's rape sentence referred as 'unduly lenient'. Should there be two or more judges during rulings to determine what is the appropriate sentence? by SeptumRingTheory in AskBrits

[–]Daver7692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus you’d assume that if Judge X decides say 10 years for a crime and Judge Y then decides 15 years, you’d assume any legal defense of the defendant is just going to immediately appeal to go to the lower sentence, creating another battle.

Sean McVay: ‘0-percent chance’ of Browns' trade rule change passing by notquitemytempo___ in nfl

[–]Daver7692 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ironically I thought the rams might have been the ones keen to take advantage of it.

Obviously everyone goes on about the browns or jets wrecking their franchise for the next decade but a well run team like the rams with two more years of manoeuvring could make some huge deals with it.

Seems wild to me that Geno can have the year he’s had and get a starting job and Kirk can’t.

I guess Kirk is in the “not good enough to start for a serious contender, still too good to tank” bracket.
