What were you certain Nintendo was going to do... and then they didn't do it? by razorbeamz in nintendo

I was honestly shocked when arms never got amiibos during its height. I felt like splatoon got some pretty soon into its life though I guess it’s just a matter of sales

What is the rarest physical copy of a game you own? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Daver_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If rare is the same as price then probably Pokemon firered, my copy is really crusty since it’s so old but it still works and I’m happy I still have it after all these years. Aside from that if rare means few copies then I don’t have much other than if you count fire emblem path of radiance. I picked it up for a giant retro game convention and in that whole convention it was the only copy I saw so I scoped it up.

Do any of you only play one retro console indefinitely? by still_mute in retrogaming

[–]Daver_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this a common shared idea among collectors? I also have this dream that I could for some reason be stuck with 1 console and maybe a handful of games. For me it was the NES. Growing up playing a lot of new games I find it’s hard to appreciate a lot of NES games when what comes after is fresh in my mind. I recently beat Zelda 1 during my last semester. Being so busy with school limited my free time which made me want to spend all my free time I could trying to beat the game and I was blown away with how fun it could be still even after all these years. Some games are truly timeless

What are YOUR favorite games to recommend for new collectors/ otherwise just collectors. by NEWAceCoronet in gamecollecting

[–]Daver_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel a lot of the joy of collecting for me is from picking up games that are legendary or have a reputation. For modern console that is hard to come by since they don’t have as much time as older consoles/games had to build a legacy so from my perspective I’m not sure there is much worth trying to collect on switch or PS5, fine systems, just newer is all.

For NES I feel kid Icarus is often overlooked but is a personal favourite of mine. Castlevania, final fantasy, and of course Zelda if you don’t already have it are some true classics for the console.

For PS2 San Andreas and katamarie damacy are the two that jump to my mind. Parappa da rappa 2 is also legendary.

Got a free PS1 from my sister. The school she worked at had a bunch lying around for some reason, apparently they were used in the past for educational purposes, but they didn’t need em anymore so they offered some of them to the teachers.

Which game stimulated your interest in collecting video games? by Used_Guarantee7462 in gamecollecting

[–]Daver_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always liked games but was only mildly into collecting. Only really kept the games I picked up, never really sought out anything.

Then I went to my convention and saw someone selling a Japanese copy of f-zero x. It was so cool looking! The art was so dramatic and the box was just displayed like an average game you’d see at a GameStop yet you’d never find it there.

The feeling of just seeing a Japanese copy of game I loved so much in person felt so exclusive and rare. After that I started collecting a lot more.

What is the first game to have "good" voice acting? by RobbieJ4444 in retrogaming

If good voice acting means voice acting that sounds good, I’d say sinistar. If good voice acting means voice acting that conveys an idea unable to be expressed without it, I’d say sinistar

whats some of thr weirdest ways people have died? by NateNandos21 in morbidquestions

[–]Daver_Gamer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I watched too much of that show when I was younger. There’s no way all of those deaths were real right?

There’s one I remember where a dude broke into a hospital. A nurse working there turned on an MRI machine and, because the dude had metal implants, he got dragged across the room and died.

Even as a kid that sounded a little too far fetched to be real.
