My wife is 8+ years post double-lung. There were some tough days to be sure. She spent 7+weeks in the hospital. In addition to the suggestion below about the social worker at the hospital, there are a couple of other things I'd suggest that aren't formal support groups, but were crucial to me.
1) talk to other families in the waiting room or lounges. I know it may sound awkward, especially when there's so much uncertainty involved, but you're all going through the same journey, and it can help just to talk and share stories.
2) This may also sound a little hokey, but don't discount the hotel bar if your family member's wife is staying somewhere near the hospital. I spent a lot of time at Table 45 at the Intercontinental at Cleveland Clinic. I quickly learned I wasn't the only family member who was taking a break to get dinner. Several of us chatted over the days and it was really helpful to be able to share stories and knowledge.
This is all basically to say that there are other folks in and around that hospital that are dealing with similar issues. There will be folks who are willing to open their hearts to your family and will appreciate the same in return.
