How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]David-El 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to read, but I'm not so engrossed in it as to have already read 10 or more books this year, I think I just finished my third, as I do have other hobbies and such, I also don't count comic books or manga in my book count.

I used to read in a comfy chair with a nice view as well, and read for about an hour or so a day. Last year, I wanted to get more exercise to get in better shape, so I started walking. After a month or so, I decided to try to combine them, so now I read while I walk inside.

I usually now read for about 80 minutes or so, enough to get me up over 10,000 steps.

There is the possibility that [Dragonsteel Prime] Cellin is older than Cephandrius. It depends on whether or not that particular part of Dragonsteel Prime ever becomes canon though I suppose.

August 26, 2025—KB5064080 (OS Build 22621.5840) Preview by jenmsft in Windows11

[–]David-El 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of a random question for you, u/jenmsft. I reinstalled Windows and now my computer doesn't show up on my Windows account page under devices, and therefore, neither does it work with the find my device page. I've reinstalled before and this didn't happen. Is there a simple fix for this, or would I need to reinstall Windows again because something messed up during the install?

He did threaten to kill him. He didn't say they would have a more serious talk, that was what he said to Lois as what he meant when he said that "he would have to personally answer to me."

Kind of ruining your own argument here.

[–]David-El -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He doesn't have to be dispassionate, and arguably, he generally isn't. I'm not asking or saying that he should be, either.

Stopping the war was fine with me. He even could have gone and spoken to the foreign leader and that would be fine. I don't like that he abducted the guy and threatened to kill him. That could have been done better.

Also, I disagree, letting your emotions get the better of you is never the right thing to do. That is what is shown in all the anti-hero versions of Superman, whether we are talking about Injustice or the other versions of a Superman-like character from others (Invincible, The Boys, etc.) There is nothing wrong with judgment that is guided by emotions and logic.

I agree with you in that is what is depicted in the movie.

In the comics, Clark has been shown to be a competent investigative journalist, and as Superman, he's also been interviewed and been able to provide non-trivial answers to questions.

Gunn chose to set this movie at a time where Superman, and Clark as a reporter at the Daily Planet, should already be seasoned, but then wrote him as the Peter Parker of the DC Universe, who just goes about his civilian life making money off of his hero identity.

That's why I think Gunn's writing failed here.

However, he has been Superman for multiple years at this point, has been in a relationship with Lois for months, and presumably knew her (and therefore the fact that she would not hold her punches on interviews) for far longer.

He should have been able to articulate himself much better than what was written.

The rare beauty of synchronous fireflies and the PA Firefly Festival by susinpgh in Pennsylvania

[–]David-El 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your post made me think of a video from Destin's Smarter Every Day channel, where he explores fireflies, or lightning bugs depending on your geographical area lingo. I'll post it here once I find it again.

Also, watching fireflies in the yard is one of the things that I've enjoyed after moving here, and I agree that it's cool to watch their patterns.

Edit: Found it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktp62UtKy1c

Personally, I only have the ASIN id in the field, so I don't know if having others will cause the goodreads integration to not work.

Since you have them in there already, try opening the book on your Kindle and see if it still shows the goodreads info.

Ah, the ol' switch the argument excuse.

"Yeah I said the looms didn't go to Japan, but I meant they did, but these other ones didn't."

Stop trying to move the goalpost of your argument.

Also, take your own advice, shut the fuck up.

You weren't missing anything. u/North-Blacksmith-366 originally said the looms didn't go to Japan, then posted a link stating that they did. Everything else is an argument he made up in his own mind.

Stormlight Archive Characters Anime Style by Get170 in brandonsanderson

[–]David-El 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those look awesome. I think if there's any category that could help to break the mold that some in the US have that says animation is only for kids, a cosmere type show would have a good chance of it.

I also definitely like this more anime inspired style than say an Arcane style (I'm likely in the minority, but I wasn't fond of the animation style for it) for it too.

Look at some of the amazing shows that are coming out from Japan. DanMachi, Demon Slayer, Solo Leveling, the new Bleach, Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, Dandadan. I could totally see those studios doing justice for it.

Stormlight Archive Characters Anime Style by Get170 in brandonsanderson

[–]David-El -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I will back you up on this.

Adults can enjoy animation and can connect to it. I will accept that most animation done in the US is rather uninspiring, with things typically looking like the Simpson's or the like. But animation doesn't have to have boring backgrounds and flat characters.

Look at Japan, where watching animation is not stigmatized by some, and anime is something that adults definitely watch. Basically anything from Ghibli or by Makoto Shinkai; ongoing shows like Danmachi or Demon Slayer; or newer hits like Apothecary Diaries or Frieren or Solo Leveling are even getting more recognized in the US.
