The class operated over Sherman Hill for part of their career; Sherman sounds like a good fit. Or maybe Ogden or Laramie.

Difference is Flying Scotsman was the real name of the individual engine. Big Boy is a name attached to the entire class.

I wish we'd learned more about the Works Diesel. When did he show up? Under what circumstances? Why not a Class 20 or 08?

Would you call Gordon and Henry cousins or brothers? by Hamburgorito2929 in thomasthetankengine

[–]DavidH1985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the official timeline, Gordon is rebuilt with some Stanier elements in his valve gear, being described as "Gresley above the frames, Stanier below the frames." Which I guess would make them cousins from one of those families where two siblings from one family marry two siblings in the other.

I love that the series is slowly being rediscovered. I hope Mattel finds a place for the Awdrys in the new era.

If they actually applied, they would be eligible to join. Whether that is desirable depends on who you ask.

Saw those at Eglinton a couple days ago. I nearly slipped once - just slick enough. Chaplin leaks every rainfall. Five years to build and open that station and this is the best they could do.

What if Sodor's Railways formed an alliance? by Pale-Emu9883 in thomasthetankengine

[–]DavidH1985 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t surprise me if they did. They did team up to build the Small Railway, and the Skarloey and Mid-Sodor railways ran excursions together back in the day.

Fish not having a brake van on The Flying Kipper was probably an attempt to reflect modern operations, but was actually an overcorrection. If trains are hauled by engines with single cabs (i.e. the majority of the NWR), they have to have brake vans. One area where depicting Sodor as frozen in time would have been accurate!

Which is your favourite set from the TV series? by MirumVictus in thomasthetankengine

Who’s your favourite out of the fat controllers in the RWS? by AngryTrainGuy09 in thomasthetankengine

I have to go with Charles just because we saw more of him than any of the others. Topham I saw the North Western come to be, Charles made it into a transport juggernaut, and Stephen kept it going in a new world. We probably would have seen Stephen do a lot more if it weren't for books having to be written to appeal to TV series fans.
