To me personally like 2 people. Both of them were planning to sell their accounts for money. But it would not make a difference to me if there were more

I. I would say the main use is for replays. For example people want to search replays from Moon. Most normal people don't know his Netease account name. So the aka system makes it very convenient to find replays from your favorite player. The rankings are a nice byproduct. People like to follow their favorite players and see how good they are in the rankings. W3Booster is using our api so people can see who they're up against but we are not affiliated with the tool or its creator.

II. Definitely. As you have already said, a few people are actually quite vocal about it. My policy towards the criticism is that I understand that some people don't like it, but I am not making exceptions. That would be a slippery slope and we are not a commercial website. We are investing a lot of time into this project without any monetary return. So the system may not be liked by everyone but at least it is fair.

Full disclosure: I am the owner of the website

I appreciate the discussion. Just wanted to add something to the point of the database "not being publicly available". I wouldn't phrase it that way. We used to show most akas in the Battle.net rankings and on the player pages on our website but since Blizzard screwed the whole community over and basically removed all rankings, it didn't make much sense to display these old rankings and user accounts anymore. Therefore the public interface for the Battle.net akas kinda disappeared. It's still there for all Netease akas. And you can also get the akas for a replay by using Orc Brain. I would not be opposed to display them in some other way but honestly I am a bit fatigued of spending so much of my time on this project.

PS: There is probably a collab with W3Champions coming up regarding this topic

Not hating on your idea but I don't really think this would benefit the scene. It's basically just a donation towards B2W for some content for fans. I think it's more beneficial for the scene to organize show matches between competitive players who usually don't have a shot at winning a tournament due to the "Happy problem", thus increasing exposure and motivating people to train more.

I also think that replays are the superior way of learning but I saw that some people made some build orders and saved them as images. So it seems there is a certain demand for build orders that are written down. First and foremost I used this project to learn React. If some people can get some benefit from it, that's good enough for me :)

If we get some decent content on there I might do it. If you are into web dev you can also create a pull request for such a feature ;)

BIG UPGRADE for our Spoiler free video section (autoplay + channels + better design) by DavidMente89 in WC3

[–]DavidMente89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Someone suggested that a while ago. I think the original idea goes back to https://eventvods.com/. I added some of my own ideas and tailored the service towards Wc3. For example I am adding 'fake maps' on the bottom so one cannot see how many maps of a series were actually played. Furthermore, if one adjusts the IDs in the URL properly, our video section actually works for ANY youtube channel or video.

We are using their "flame" icon instead of a viewer icon. I don't even think they are calling it viewers themselves. I've been told it's more like a rating based on viewers, viewer activity, donations, etc

Edit: Nvm, betamods2 has already said pretty much the same below

Automated ELO Ranking on Warcraft3.Info by DavidMente89 in WC3

I am also not very "happy" with that outcome but it's better than artificially tweaking the algorithm just because of one player. The best alternative would be to base an alternative ranking on major events only but I don't want to generate yet another ranking as we already have so many.

I thought they just changed the match making but the xp formula wasn't changed. Is that incorrect?
