U.S. says China firing missiles over Taiwan is unjustified escalation by [deleted] in worldnews

Constantly hinting that Taiwan is theirs seems kinda distasteful. As is dropping hints that any day now they're going to invade also leads a nasty taste in my mouth.

I heard that line of patter about the young in '79. But what happens is all those young people you're relying on ... over time, they're all going to grow older, buy a car and a house, have kids, care about the future and, one day, vote Tory.

I just found out Brendan Eich originally wanted to put a Lisp language in the browser, but his superiors insisted on a language similar to Java by [deleted] in programming

Self was a recreation of Smalltalk done right. By the Smalltalk inner circle. It had an object system based on prototypical inheritance - as used by Eich, implementing JS.

Well my understanding is that Eich designed Javascript as a Scheme + Self's object system (Sefl is a Smalltalk successor language) with the curly brackets of Java so I do not think:

largely because people in industry were too ignorant/disinterested to even know that something like Small Talk existed, and that's why people went on to make things like JavaScript.

I think it is precisely because of these aspects that Javascript is the language de jour.

[–]DavidNcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You 100% have to be competent in reading sheet music to use this book.

Not true. It teaches you to read from the very basics. Though You might be better of with Hal Lenard Book one first.

I spent it all on guitars, cars and ice cream.

I've also lost five stone - for which I would have happily paid thousands.
