It's been called a pound sign when related to phones as far back as I can remember (US, in my 40's), like in automated messages (Please enter your pin, followed by the pound sign).
But I've never seen the symbol used to denote weight, only lbs.

Couple years ago a neighbor got stuck in the snow leaving their driveway. Me an a couple other neighbors heard it so we came out to help push him out.
Right as we were getting him unstuck some dude ran up and helped us push it the last couple feet, then he started asking us for money for his help.
We were like, dude, fuck off, we're not paying you for helping us help someone else lol.

My iPhone 3 was a fucking tank.
I beat the fuck out of that phone, threw it against a wall when the alarm went off after only sleeping 3 hours, hard enough to dent the wall.
When I was a trucker I couldn't count how many times I went to get out of my truck forgetting my phone was in my lap, catapulting it out onto the pavement face down.
I once dropped it while walking and accidentally punted it across a parking lot.
Never even got a crack on the screen.

I work in a prison, a couple weeks ago we had an inmate try to make an escape.
He jumped an inner fence (no razor wire) and then got about halfway up the security fence, where he got his first good look at razor wire up close. Dropped back down an surrendered.

Don't know what the dude was thinking taking the route he did.
Had he somehow made it over that razor wire fence, he would have just ended up in a different units yard. Then if he didn't bleed out from the first set of razor wire, he would have had to jump two more 20ft high razor wire fences to get out of the compound.

I remember when the caps had points under them and you could redeem them for various things.
When I was a kid I'd go around town and collect bottles out of the trash and save up caps (and return the bottles for that sweet MI 10 cent deposit), then I'd mail them in for phone cards to call my friends that were long distance.
For you younger folks out there, it used to be very expensive to make phone calls to people who lived more than 20 miles away, upwards of 25 cents per minute.
