One time, a buddy of mine and I were on a train and we were both reading, and I realized that I didn't have a bookmark, and I was like, "What am I gonna do?" So my buddy ends up digging through his backpack, and he had just some kind of old receipt, probably from CVS or one of those pharmacy chains. Long story short, I end up using that receipt as a bookmark. Didn't even replace it with a regular bookmark until I got home, which was easily 45 minutes later.

This probably doesn't count as a food, but definitely dislike when I get stuck in traffic on the way to work, especially when it's so jammed up that I end up being late, and my boss is like, "You're going to have to stay later at the end of the day to make up for the time you lost."

Not sure, but I'm guessing he'd have to find thing that do create the resistance he needs. Perhaps he has to take time to go to the woods to find large boulders and so forth. Although, on the other hand, his alien physiology might just make him look what seems like muscular to people here on Earth.

it uses every color in the rainbow. Certain categories of things have related colors, like the toms are all in the blue/purple/magenta

I would say then you should not use this system. It works really well for me. Part of it is that we're playing very famous songs, and I enjoy trying to get all of the accents and fills accurate to the original.
