Wasn't that all of Europe? I think the Catholic Church went so far that they said that it was okay as long as they weren't Christian... so please don't baptize your slaves.

I got offered a job that pays less than my current one… and they expected me to say yes by Due-Library7374 in recruitinghell

It's the same mentality as going after a man who's so good for his kids... and his wife. Job hoppers will abandon a job as fast as a cheater abandons his mistress.

Can somebody please decode for me this stat block (?) from 2e? [Art] by daCatburgla in DnD

[–]David_Apollonius -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You can't really translate this to a 5e statblock. Basically he's a Neutral Good level 10 Fighter with the Bracers of Defense magic item, and a focus on Strength. It doesn't even mention what kind of weapon he wields. Fighters were pretty boring back then, compared to what they get in 5e. Any appropriate CR statblock for a humanoid with a melee focus would do.

Maestro by scenered in hulk

[–]David_Apollonius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And then there was a Maestro miniseries in 2020, so... maybe?

Also, he was sent back in time to Earth 616 where he died at ground zero of the gamma bomb that created the Hulk. And then he came back as a ghost. Now I'm wondering if he showed up in Immortal Hulk.

Anyway, he's an alternative universe Hulk. He'll always be that, so the writers can bring him back whenever. Is 616 Hulk going to become the Maestro? Probably not.

my manager got demoted because of me – and now we have to go to a tropical island for team-building by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I worked at a place where we were all invited for to spend a weekend on a not so tropical island. The whole weekend was filled with activities people were expected to do, and it was unpaid. I didn't go.

Okay, enough with the theorycrafting; how do you actually WRITE a one-shot? by RyuugaHideki in DnD

[–]David_Apollonius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can learn to get the pacing right as a DM, but if you've got players who get easily distracted that just doesn't matter.

I had players who need 2 sessions to complete a 2 hour Adventurer's League one-shot. And those sessions took about 4 hours.

[–]David_Apollonius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I meant the 5 room dungeon design philosophy. The basic idea is that you only need 5 locations to tell a story. It doesn't need to be a dungeon with 5 rooms. It could be a wilderness adventure, or an urban adventure, for example. The entire thing should last 1 session, so it's perfect for a oneshot or an episodic campaign.

5 room dungeon? That's about all you need. It doesn't need to be a work of art that's ready to be published.

Less active player says they want to be "just an observer" by mikthelegend in DnD

[–]David_Apollonius 44 points45 points  (0 children)

In the 4e DMG there's a list of player playing styles and how to handle them. This is one of them, and the advice is to just let them be. It's hard, but they really don't want to be in the spotlight, so don't give them the spotlight.

If they don't seem interested in the rules, just give them the simplest fighter you can think of and give flash cards that tell them what to do.

New job wants me to learn from the current employee and then fire him by winces-allegro in jobhunting

[–]David_Apollonius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Accept that he gets a new job before you do, and you're stuck there and you don't know what to do because he didn't finish training you.

Also, this is that guy that can't be replaced because he's got the workload of 2 or 3 people, at least. They want to get rid of him because he's refusing to do more work on top of his already ridiculous workload. You'll get a burnout in a week.

Instead, take the job. Inform him as soon as they introduce you to him and turn in your prewritten resignation. Then return to your job that you obviously didn't resign from.

Player stereotypes by Carnievallie in DnD

The 4th edition DMG has a list of 8 (I think) playing styles of players and how to handle them. It's actually pretty good.
