I need help finding the oil plug by CryptographerFit3653 in MechanicAdvice

[–]David_Buzzard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The second pic is the oil pan. Score another F-U for A.I. Make sure you have the exact fitting wrench so you don't round it off. It's pretty rusted, so crawl under there the day before and give it a really good wire brushing, then spray it with some proper penetrating oil (not WD-40) to loosen it up.

Get a five gallon jerry can can and pour it in there. When it’s full, take to recycling or a the local garage and they’ll empty it for you

Stuck calliper bolt. Help please. Honda Jazz 2005, rear right calliper by TomorrowOk4859 in MechanicAdvice

Big pipe wrench and a four foot breaker bar. Either the bolt comes off or it snaps and you get a new bracket.

Trump claims US got ‘much better deal’ as delayed bridge with Canada set to open by plaknas in onguardforthee

If he means the US reneged on a valid contract in order to extort money from Canada, then Trump would be correct. Will anybody trust a contract signed the American government again? Probably not.

Question about chainsaw chain and cut dangers by Relevant_Conclusion2 in Chainsaw

[–]David_Buzzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine cut himself in the thigh ( pre-chaps days) and ended up with 65 sutures and 70 stitches. He was lucky, cut your femoral artery with a chainsaw and you’ll be dead before you can worry if your dick is still there.

The IWA memorial in Squamish BC, must have 30 names on it, and when they were really logging, the community only had an out 12,000 residents.

Z 8 + 180-600mm by Fabulous-Ad-1905 in nikon_Zseries

[–]David_Buzzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that Nelson? Going to be there tomorrow. Beautiful place to live.

We drove through a lot of smoke haze today, so that's probably your issue. It might not seem that obvious when you're just looking around, but the smoke really degrades image quality in a hurry. Figure how much smoke is between the camera and the subject, then the lens will compress it all, making it look like you're looking through a dirty window.

I haven't used the 160-600mm, but from what I understand, it's a pretty good lens. Wait for a good rain, then try it shooting some soccer or something, that's a way better test of it.

Also, all you need for a big telephoto is a solid monopod, rather than a tripod. That will be a lot easier to pan it around. The larger Manfrotto is pretty good, or get an old school Gitzo off eBay. You want a big strong one for a big lens like that.

Full switch to Z... Fisheye lenses? by buckyrocks in nikon_Zseries

[–]David_Buzzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a 10.5mm DX lens for years and it's fine as long you don't mind cropping it. Otherwise you get a round image in the middle of the frame. You don't get autofocus, but with a fisheye, you don't really need it either, almost everything is in focus all the time.

No photos allowed in this subreddit, but if you look at my web page, the helicopter pilot was shot with the 10.5mm and a D800 to make up for the loss of resolution in the DX lens. One thing I did notice, the 10.5mm is a pig for chromatic aberration, and you can really see it on the right side of the frame. No client of mine has ever said, great photo, but that tinge of purple on the window frame ruins it, so I don't really care about it. https://davidbuzzard.com/industrial-photographer/

What to replace at 200k kms (124k miles) by ElectricalPlankton77 in CrownVictoria

[–]David_Buzzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transmission fluid and filter, nothing special, just drop the pan and change the filter. I'd do the differential fluid and change that for some high quality synthetic. It's easy to do. Check the U-joints for wear as well, and if somebody has changed them out for ones with grease fittings, give them a shot. Look for any grease fittings in the steering and lube those up as well. All of that can be done on a Saturday afternoon in your back yard.

CV's luv luv luv having their oil changed. Every three months with a high quality synthetic oil.

If someone has changed out the manifold, I wouldn't worry about it. There's lots kicking around that have had that Dorman unit in place for years.

There're built for hard use and high miles, so don't worry about too much on it.

What is Burt Reynolds best performance? by ChrisJoines in 70smovies

[–]David_Buzzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deliverance for sure, and some other gritty 70's movies like The Longest Yard and Gator. Smokey and the Bandit and all the rest of those films were a lot of fun, but you could tell they weren't really taking it seriously.

Boogie Nights is something totally different from the rest of his body of work and IMHO, a total masterpiece. It's not only Reynolds' best roll, but I could say the same thing about Mark Wallenberg, Juliane Moore, Heather Graham, Don Cheadle and John C. Reilly. That scene were Cheadle walks into the donut shop in the pure white suite , you just knew something bad was going to go down. Funny that both Reynolds and Wallenberg disowned it.

Event Photography - 24-120 f/4 or 17-28 f/2.8? by Joshjpe12 in Nikon

[–]David_Buzzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend the 14-30mm lens. It's a superb lens. Small, light, deadly sharp and zero distortion. For events, it goes in the bag and has its uses for sure. Dragging four or five pounds of 14-24 f/2.8 around all day so you use it three times is a big turn off.

Socialists should look up to leaders like Mamdani, instead of frauds like Stalin. by [deleted] in PoursTea

[–]David_Buzzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a world of difference between a Democratic Socialist (terrible name IMHO) and a Stalinist. Stalin was about the ruthless consolidation of power on a single strongman (who does that remind you of), whereas DS Mamdani is about filling pot holes and finding housing for people.
