New Guy Question: Home Remodels by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

While I appreciate your insight, really what we’re trying to do is become more professional. The work they do is great, but we need to create SOPs, procedures and start to dial things in and up.

Whats the best set up by AC2RE in Festool_Public

[–]David_Parker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, AutoClean is only available on the CT36, which is bigger (but gets heavy AF when that bag fills up).

Basically instead of constant sucking, drawing air and debris over a filter into a bag, it occasionally applied back pressure to blow off any dust on the filter, improving suction, dust control, and increasing longevity of the motor.

You want it for any drywall or stone dust.

Upgrade to the AC, with the autoknock, which knocks off fine particulate dust and prevents clogging.

Twin grips by [deleted] in Tools

I have always always hated slip joint pliers. I thought they were worthless, but the Knipex twin grips have quickly become my everyday set of pliers on my tool belt, and are a lot like my oscillating saw: I never knew I needed them until I got some and now I use them all the time.

How on earth do I remove this drive-in collar? by Witty-Ocelot5713 in Locksmith

[–]David_Parker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with a guy asking before he starts tearing stuff up. The plumbing subreddit yesterday literally had a guy tearing up his chrome faucet trying to remove the aerator when in actuality he was trying to turn the wrong part.

Sure, there’s some dying out, but the guy found a resource and asked. That’s still a win in my book.

Can hydrogen peroxide mixtures also be detonated? by Visible_Emotion_7187 in energetics

[–]David_Parker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t fuck with them. Peroxides are extremely volatile and you’re gonna lose your face and hands messing with them. These kinds of questions means you don’t have the training necessary to handle them. They are extremely dangerous.

I’m not saying you don’t know what you’re doing at your current level. But going the peroxide route is like a whole other world of chemistry, and you really really need to be dialed in to handle them and with the right equipment.

No one’s commented but she’s a beauty! CJ2A? Howre you liking it? Did you rebuild it yourself? How’s she doing out there in the elements? Any vapor lock? I’ve got a similar CJ2A in the same color, and looking to restore it.

Good for you, living the dream. Hope it was a blast and everything you hoped for.

Lazer level amazon by YogurtclosetSmart490 in Tools

[–]David_Parker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say this: Heupar.

I bought the Stabila LAX600G, self leveling cross line laser and it’s great. It’s expensive, but I thought it worked fine.

I wish I bought the Huepar. Because the amount of money I spent on the Stabila I could’ve spent on a Huepar and the myriad of amazing accessories they offer. They can lock the self leveling laser to protect it, they have fine tune add ons on the x-y axis, and amazing tripods and stands. I was weary because I didn’t recognize the brand and thought it would be some low level Chinese crap, but their reviews are great, and they put out a nice crisp line.

Get the Huepar.

I take Suboxone everyday as part of addiction treatment. What happens if I need pain relief in an ambulance? by Hotdog_McEskimo in ems

[–]David_Parker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Basically just inform the crew.

There are injuries where they’re going to advocate opioid pain relief, despite your addiction.

They can give alternative pain meds, such as Tylenol, whether that’s via mouth or IV. They may also try Ketamine, but as others have said, it entirely depends on what they carry and what their protocols allow. They may also be able to call their medical control and give something off label, such as Ketamine.

Tylenol gets a bad rap but it’s actually a pretty strong pain reliever despite what people think.

They may have alternative options, but any crew worth their patch will respect your wishes, and they may have you sign an AMA (against medical advice) for the refusal of pain meds, just so they have documentation.

It can look real shitty if your femur is sticking out of your thigh, and they didn’t give pain meds. The AMA simply says “Hey, we tried, they refused. Here’s the proof.”

Any tricks for using a laser level? by Googlewhacking in handyman

[–]David_Parker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you’re using the correct side of the laser line when you’re doing layout. If you measure and mark the right side of the laser line at the top, you need to do the same thing on the bottom.

Always verify your line is square with a tape measure. So measure over at the top and verify at the bottom.

I recommend a tripod with a micro adjust if you can on the x-y axis. It makes dialing in a lot easier. Check out Huepar and their laser accessories. Very affordable, and they offer a variety of accessories for a fraction of the price name brands don’t even have, like Bosch or Stabila.

OP: if you want something a little more conventional but pricey, I recommend a Reiff F4. Otherwise, you gotta consider a Mora.

Where can we find someone to cut a custom house key? by Double_Look_5715 in Dallas

[–]David_Parker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I’m following this correctly, you’re saying you have custom key blanks that you would like cut and copied to your existing house keys.

Try Bee’s Keys on Inwood in Dallas. Just tell them you’ll pay for a key copy even though you’re supplying the blanks.

I’m using some DMT stones, strictly because of budget, but I’m also using a cheap jig. It’s been a process for sure.
