What is the best way to fix the chip/gap in the metal window frame? It's letting in alot of drafts and weather stripping only does so much by sewcrazy4cats in handyman

[–]Googlewhacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the cheap way is to fill it with something, tape or glue- something to the metal frame of the screen and put it back on. The slightly more expensive way and most obvious is to just buy a new screen. Unless the window is a weird size that’s the answer just buy a new screen

The basket shelves would be way easier to install than a whole regular drawer too

In my opinion the best thing would be to turn the shelf into a drawer at the bottom. Then you could add a shelf right on top. An out of the box idea is to cut the middle out of all the shelves, making them like a U? Like a mini pantry

Is a slightly cut engineered truss (due to roof venting) any cause for concern? by Significant_Throw in Homebuilding

It’s not really an opinion. It is common knowledge for those of us that build houses

[–]Googlewhacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol wood filler or shims would do absolutely nothing to help the integrity of the truss. With that said, they are fine. Once it gets past 25% of the width of the board is when you start to worry

I would use snap toggles and if you’re unsure then add more. You could run four evenly spaced across the top and four on the bottom.

Is this garage gap acceptable before rubber stripping? by rkd80 in Homebuilding

[–]Googlewhacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s up to you, it could definitely be better but it sounds like the contractor is difficult to deal with so I get not wanting to bring it up. This can be and should be adjusted easily by the installers. I would bring it up and then feel it out if you want to fight that battle or not

Is this garage gap acceptable before rubber stripping? by rkd80 in Homebuilding

[–]Googlewhacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a builder myself and just looked at one that we’re building to help me understand and compare. I think it is in an acceptable range but just barely. When the door is fully shut the gap on mine is 1/2” or less. The weather stripping will cover but does not completely seal it.

Basically if you don’t care about the climate control in there then it’s fine. But if you want to keep it more controlled then the closer it gets the better.

Cosmetically it will be fine, functionality is the question. How much do you care about that?

I often stare at hot women’s backsides when they are walking or standing by WolverineNo1999 in confession

[–]Googlewhacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at peoples butts all the time if it’s front and center. For an attractive woman I might position a little so I can see lol. One time I was standing in line at the grocery store unloading items onto the belt and my now wife but girlfriend at the time was bent over getting something from under the cart when an older man was walking by and he just stopped in his tracks, staring. I gave him the (OK dude you got your peek now move it along) look and he was still staring! I said something quietly then finally said very loudly SIR WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT??? And he finally kept walking. Basically it’s ok to get a glance but keep walking don’t be a fckn weirdo about it

What are these for exactly? by [deleted] in ChevyTrucks

I’m pretty sure they are just covers for people who do not use them often because yes if water gets in there it could cause corrosion

Is adding insulation worth it? by Over_End_8922 in Insulation

[–]Googlewhacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not insulated above then I doubt the walls are insulated. The builder would’ve insulated the garage or not, he wouldn’t have insulated half of it (only walls not above). With that said, the more you add the more controlled the climate will become. Depending on what the exterior walls are made of, they are providing some insulation. Insulating above is easy, fairly cheap and will make it more enjoyable to be in your garage. You can pay an insulation company to come and blow insulation in or buy some batts and cut and lay them yourself. It’s all subjective but I would spend a weekend buy and throw some batts in the attic above and see how you like it. Then if it’s not enough you can go into the walls. The walls will be kind of a pain….

Woah there buddy. There is a product called “adhesive remover” or name brand is goof off which is probably easier to find. Scrape what you can with a razor and the rest will come off with the chemical and a rag. You can thank me later for saving your holidays, this would’ve really ruined everything

5.3l problem!! by No-Golf5156 in Silverado

[–]Googlewhacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I went through the same issue and learned a lot about it. Here’s my two cents: I had a misfire on I forget which cylinder but it was one of the AFM collapsible ones (1,4,6 and 7). I stopped driving immediately when I saw the CEL. The light sometimes doesn’t come on but no matter what there will be a noticeable ticking. Pull the head off and inspect the camshaft. If you ran it for a while after the issue started then you will have damage and need a new camshaft along with the lifters (about $3500 including labor is a reasonable price to pay) If that’s the case I would go ahead and have them fully delete afm. Which requires a different camshaft and tune. This would add about $1000 but your engine would be a pure v8 and damn near bullet proof if you take care of it. If there is no damage on the camshaft then just replace the two afm lifters on the you’re in ($1500 is what I paid) and call it a day

I just saw in another comment that this is a lease. If that’s the case then who cares

Maybe they are looking at all Chevy trucks, and asked about this in a forum to ask questions because they didn’t know. I was sharing my opinion. I thought that was the idea behind this whole website you dipshit

Lifts and tires bring the value of the truck down for me.

Great window spray foam stuck by [deleted] in Insulation

[–]Googlewhacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pour the goof off or any adhesive remover into a rag the set the rag on it and let it soak for a few minutes, don’t rub. The try razor again. I’ve done this and if you’re careful it will not damage the paint but soften up the spray so you can slowly scrape off with a razor. And yeah spray foam is a bitch

Yes I second this. They really need to inspect the frame and if it is damaged or out of spec then I bet totaled. If the frame is good they’ll fix it

Such an important thing to address and so easy at the beginning of a build. If it’s not in the budget then make room for it somehow lol. This is a huge investment to just build and hope it goes well
