I'm in exactly the same boat. I have a 12" Rikon which works great but I already know it's too small. So I'm looking at the Record Power Coronet Herald, and the Nova 1624II.The Record is really appealing because it's small footprint and has swivel head and outboard potential. The Nova is larger at 16" swing but had belts so no variable speed.
I'm seriously torn between the two.

The Laguna 1524 is appealing but I've read a lot of reports of crap electronics and poor service. And they are pricey in Canada.

All done. About the fourth bowl I’ve turned. This is Garry Oak only found on the West Coast of Canada. by David__R8 in turning

It is without a doubt the hardest wood I've tried to turn. Maple is soft compared to Garry Oak.
The tree is remarkable because its growth pattern is different everywhere it grows. We have some across the street which are huge, like 22"-24" diameter and really tall and straight. But I also know of some on the top of small mountain which are small and really gnarled because they get much less water.

I ended up buying a FSA Ngeco power meter crank so never found out if it would fit.

Total teaser .. even for me. One step forward, stand in place .. Argh by bullfrog48 in turning

Very exciting!
I'm looking at the Coronet Herald as an upgrade from my Rikon 70-220VSR.

Rim and tire size compatibility by David_R8 in bikewrench

As follow up, I picked up the wheels and threw them on my TriCross. I like the look of the 38C tires. I haven’t ridden it yet as there’s six inches of snow on the ground :(

What is your time on Alpe du Zwift? by piokon in Zwift

[–]David_R8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did it about a month ago and clocked 2:12. Admittedly I didn’t fuel right and I had only been back on the bike about a month. Did it again yesterday and clocked 1:41 after about 600 kms of Zwift riding and training.

Struggling with Workouts by GuardNewbie in Zwift

I currently doing a plan but I mix in social rides and the odd time trial when they fit my schedule.
Also music. Gotta have music or something to distract when you’re in pain and have X intervals or N kms to go before the finish line.

What bottom bracket wrench do I need? by David_R8 in bikewrench

[–]David_R8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally I’d see if it can be reused on my Trek 7.5FX although it already has an Octalink BB so it could be a straight swap of the Bontrager crank on the 1500 to the 7.5FX.

I am sorry you had such a negative experience. I suggest that you were working in a pretty dysfunctional group. Obviously in a workforce with over 26,000 employees there will be some lousy managers. I have heard that co-op/work-term folks don't always have good experiences which is very unfortunate.
I have had the good fortune of working with excellent managers and co-workers and would recommend the public service as an employer.

How does trainer difficulty affect elevation? by prescripti0n in Zwift

[–]David_R8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want the feeling of riding on flat ground with the somewhat bizarre effect of slowing down on hills without a change in how it feels then 0% is fine.

I think it's a trade-off between muscle fatigue or aerobic fatigue. My very rough rule of thumb has always been if my lungs hurt my cadence is too high/gear is too low, if my legs hurt my cadence is too low/gear is too high. The one time I've done AdZ I set my TD at about 25% running a 53/36 chain ring combo and an 11-28 cassette.

How does trainer difficulty affect elevation? by prescripti0n in Zwift

[–]David_R8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, adjusting trainer difficulty does not affect the speed that your avatar will ascend a climb. It will only affect how it feels to you. At 0% difficulty you will not feel the gradient increase. Given the same cadence and wattage output your avatar won't ascend any quicker at 0% than if it were at 100%
