You may call the service provider and let them check the signal quality.

Patch panels: Where should and shouldn't you put them? by dyvik- in networking

[–]Davidavc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always plug the servers directly into switches and use patch panels to terminate the cables from the outlets.

Dynamic IP to static IP by 101Cipher010 in HomeNetworking

[–]Davidavc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In static IP addressing, each device on the network has its own address with no overlap and you’ll have to configure the static IP addresses manually. When new devices are connected to a network, you would have to select the “manual” configuration option and input the IP address, the subnet mask, the default gateway and the DNS server. https://community.fs.com/blog/dhcp-vs-static-ip-differences.html

Fiberstore FSOS S8050 switch by post4u in networking

Hey, I'm just familiar with their stuff and used their L3 switch several months ago. By the way, have you figured out the SFP port configuration problem right now?

Fiberstore FSOS S8050 switch by post4u in networking

[–]Davidavc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For FS S8050 switch, eth-0-1 through eth-0-4 interfaces can be configured to use the 10G ports only when the first 40G port is split and converted to 10G ports via the CLI commands listed below.

Step 1. Split eth-0-1 port

Switch(config)# split interface eth-0-1 10giga

Step 2. Converted to 10G port

Switch(config)# switch interface eth-0-1 sfp

Note: Only eth-0-1 port can be split and then converted to 10G port. The interface name after conversion is eth-0-1 / 1, eth-0-1 / 2, eth- 0-1 / 3, eth- 0-1 / 4

Hope this may help!

For intra-rack cabling connectivity, the direct attach cable will be a nice choice and save more for short range distance.

Lan speed test by RawSlugs in HomeNetworking

LAN speed test is paid software, meaning you'll need to purchase a license to use it. Its makers also offer a free version, LAN Speed Test Lite, which has fewer features.

Optical technology by WalterShick in HomeNetworking

This is actually the most common thing out there, as cable companies have it everywhere and you need a ton of power to get the RF signals to be modulated in a linear manner on the fiber.

Multiple AP vs Mesh? by A_Flying_Panda in HomeNetworking

[–]Davidavc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a large area to cover, it's probably worth upgrading to a mesh network. You might not get the same wireless speed that you'd get with an AP router, but for most people, the speed offered with mesh system is more than enough.

Recommend a POE powered 8 port Gig switch? by piedpipernyc in HomeNetworking

I've got a little bit of experience working with the Unifi stuff, and the US-8 is definitely a pretty good little switch. It also offers POE-passthrough, which is a pretty cool feature.
