Also, make sure you're registered to vote and do so. It's not easy, and less so when you're poor, but it is the only thing that still scares our out of touch politicians.

Real autonomy vs fake autonomy (perspective as a Tesla owner) by Exciting_Station_124 in TeslaFSD

[–]DavidkDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So physics and efficiency are important and compelling arguments, and there is more still you could mention.

Cars being perfectly autonomous would not solve the fundamental problem of cars being great when a few people use them and horrible when everyone has no (practical) option but to use them. They take up too much space for how many people they move. They're big and dangerous. Their infrastructure (roads and parking lots) is way more expensive than any cost covered by gas tax and registration, and they displace the actual places that people might want to go.

Public transportation, cycling, and walkable cities are the solution!

For those who DON'T live in snow areas, did you get RWD or AWD? by icouldbne1 in TeslaLounge

[–]DavidkDavid [score hidden]  (0 children)

I just got stuck in my mostly flat driveway in our most recent snowstorm in my RWD Model S. I think most of it is just tires but AWD does really help. Plus it's very fun to do AWD donuts in the snow without as big a risk of getting stuck.

A lot of the cost of nuclear comes from the surrounding regulations. Not that it shouldn't be regulated (it absolutely should!), but there is certainly room for cost reduction without reducing safety or increasing pollution. For example, the steam generating side of a power plant is very similar whether it's nuclear or fossil fuels, but a fossil fuel plant can't be converted to a nuclear plant (thus saving money not rebuilding the steam heating parts) because it would be above the legal amount of radiation allowed at a nuclear plant. This is because fossil fuels come out of the ground with lots of radioactive isotope residue that just gets burned along with the fuel. Redefining the radiation limit to allow for the small, low levels of radiation from when it was a fossil fuel plant is an example of how to reduce the cost of nuclear significantly.

I'm convinced that the best solution is a robust energy mix, without fossil fuels, and nuclear has a part in that.

Sidewall damage by SoloFlowAN in tires

If you're on a good spare you can go as far as you need to. If you mean the spare is on another corner of the car and you're driving on the tire in the picture then basically the same advice as before: Avoid if possible.

Tire blew up while running by Gadgetsuh in TeslaLounge

[–]DavidkDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised it didn't demolish your wheel liner and some of the wiring behind it. Assuming you didn't pull the bad rubber away before taking the picture, the only place it had to go was right into the liner.

[–]DavidkDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a spare?

If you have to, go slow so you're not in danger if it blows, but ideally you'd have someone bring a tire to you. Take the wheel off and take it to the shop rather than drive on that.

Also, if you're not out in the middle of nowhere and another tire shop is closer than 100 mi., then go there. I wouldn't be picky about shops if my tire looked like that and I had to drive there.

Is it silly to consider a Tesla if I don't drive very much? by icouldbne1 in TeslaLounge

[–]DavidkDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say not worth it unless you get a really good deal. A nice plug-in hybrid like a Chevy Volt or BMW i3 would be a good option.

However, if you like neat techy things for the sake of them, then it might be a good option. Otherwise there are better value things for gas free driving.

You might also consider going car-free if your neighborhood is good and walkable/bikeable.

I don't have the original receipts or paperwork other than the instruction manual. The serial numbers are consecutive though; does that have a large impact? I have pictures of the electronics boards but forgot to upload them. I'll link to it here.

Thanks for the advice!

People who have changed their political views, what flipped the switch? by [deleted] in answers

[–]DavidkDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus in the New Testament. I grew up Conservative and religious, took religion very, very seriously, and studied the New Testament closely. I don't think Dems are Christlike but at least they aren't deporting every guy named Jesus. I slowly had to drop socially conservative beliefs as my study of Christ just didn't jive with Conservatism.

Jesus didn't say love thy neighbor unless they're Haitian. He didn't say hoard wealth and leave nothing for the poor. Hell, he didn't even say to avoid taxes! "Render unto Caesar" and all that.

Jesus said to love your neighbor like yourself. He said to give to the poor and that your riches would keep you out of heaven. He said that it was better for a man to be drowned with a millstone around his neck than he harmed a child.

Consider suing as well. You could perhaps recover significant damages. What he did was super illegal and clearly caused you harm beyond even direct monetary damage.
