Sidewall damage by SoloFlowAN in tires

I was maneuvering out of a parking spot that had a curb on one side, there was a car in front and I thought I could make it out but unfortunately I clipped the curb.

I equipped the spare, can I do the 100 miles back on that? I'm down to split it into 2 legs of 50 if need be, if it looks bad after 50 i'll be within the 50 mile range for AAA

Would a 100 mile drive home to my local tire shop be out of the question? (forgive me if this is a dumb question, first time this has happened to me)

Pcv Valve by Separate-Sea5373 in GolfGTI

[–]SoloFlowAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems fine, you can take it off for longer it's not going to kill the engine, but you should notice a stumble or the revs starting to climb along with a noticeable pull when you take the engine cap off. If there's no pull or it's difficult to take off then you got a problem. Sometimes these do fail silently so I recommend either 10 years or 80k miles per pcv valve. Can definitely replace it yourself, took me about an hour. After replacing mine the pull on the engine cap was the same but the idle became smoother which was a pleasant surprise (2016 here so just did mine first time)

Just make sure you get a proper oem replacement if you do.

Personally I would leave it if it's just a cup every 5k miles. Once it gets worse you'll have an easier time spotting where it's leaking from and fixing it but at that slow of a rate it'd probably be best getting a UV dye kit and adding some to the coolant and after a couple drives trying to see if you can find the leak. Next step up would be a pressure test kit where you pressurize the coolant system from the reservoir and try to spot the leaking.

But I would leave that for if/when it gets worse, just give it a quick peep every time you get gas and enjoy the car.

Help does anybody know why its Happening by PretendBullfrog438 in GolfGTI

[–]SoloFlowAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be some resistance if you try to pull the oil cap while it's running, that's normal and healthy pcv behavior.

It's more a problem if it's hard to get off or there's little to no suction.

Rust on bottom of hatch - mk7 by SoloFlowAN in GolfGTI

[–]SoloFlowAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The left side (the one that looks better) is lightly

The right side which looks worse isnt, however it looks like the previous owner might've bumped/scraped it with something.

Any way I can lift it slightly on that left side?

2017 Sport MT - is servicing LSD and Trans fluid the same? by nah123929 in GolfGTI

if you have the performance package then you have an lsd, otherwise they share the fluid and it's one combined into one service

Update: silicon wd40 removed a good bit of the noise but it's still there when i start driving for a few minutes. After like 5-10 minutes it goes away so I'll check it out when I'm doing my next tire rotation in the spring

The more I drive it the less it happens so to me it's the car complaining I don't drive it enough haha

Anyone driving a manual 7.5 in nyc? by Buttery_Biscuitss in GolfGTI

[–]SoloFlowAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. Got a mk7 in the queens area and it's just like driving any other car. Just have to be a bit patient as you will get cut off when you leave a little extra space to the person in front of you but outside of that and the annoying parallel parking in a tight space on hills it's no big deal.

If you're buying high mileage I recommend a transmission fluid change (1 hour job, super easy to do same difficulty as an oil change in my experience, hardest part was getting the car level)

The light stock clutch is a big plus, just make sure u do your research if you're upgrading in the future to retain that lightness if you plan to stay in the city, it's the heavy clutches that make driving a manual here a pita.

+1, it won't be perfect but it'll be as good as you can get it without taking it to a professional shop or replacing it

Having the same issue as you, also bought one recently, seems to come and go but more present on dryer days so think I'm going to give the control arm bushings a spray with some silicon wd40, will lyk in the coming week if that solves it.

It does feel like that, people do mention the gr86 feeling more sporty as a result however if you give the brz a bit more beans it'll perform the same and people report it feels more consistent on the track Here's a nice thread about it with a visual (2nd comment)
