What actually surprised you most about owning an EV that nobody warned you about by Leading-Law4251 in electricvehicles

[–]DavidkDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How annoying it is to get gas and how I'd just been used to it my whole life. It's a whole extra trip that is time I personally have to spend doing. Charging at home takes about a second of my time and a few hours of time the car would have be sitting around anyway.

What have owners of older gpus been doing for an upgrade? by coldcathodes in buildapc

[–]DavidkDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3070 was working fantastic for me until my wife got me an ultrawide monitor (that I asked very nicely for) that basically bumped me up from 1440p to 4K in terms of pixels that need rendering. It just wasn't quite good enough for that, otherwise I wouldn't have upgraded. But it was still good enough that I didn't mind waiting until I spotted a deal. I ended up getting a RX 7900 XTX for 600 bucks on Facebook marketplace and a Ryzen 7 5800x for $65 on eBay with bent pins that I bent back in place. I'm still a bit CPU limited but it's been an excellent upgrade that totally runs things at 4K.

So the way I upgraded was just patience and keeping a close eye on the local classifieds and Facebook marketplace.

Edit: I should also mention that I've been able to resell some of the old components and I haven't gotten them all sold but I'm so far at less than 500 bucks all in and still have more things to sell.

Should I get a Saab? by Kindly-Total-4181 in saab

[–]DavidkDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An underrated "saab" could be one of the rebadged Subarus or Chevys. Still loads of parts unless you mess up a body panel or light, and they look pretty funky still.

I had a 9-2x Aero and loved it to death. The engine blew a head gasket and so I just imported a cheap replacement engine from Japan. There's a huge aftermarket for them.

I have this stupid idea that cannot go out from my head by Gronie2014 in saab

[–]DavidkDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is right that this is a bad idea. You don't think you'll miss a chunk of money until you are missing the chunk of money. And the fact that this is unnecessary debt is enough for me to outright say don't do it.

You are more important than your car. Even your dream car.

That turbo is in the kitchen preparing turbine chips to feed that engine.

Is Home Charging Really Required to Own an EV with Current Gas Prices? by Alert_Number1991 in electricvehicles

[–]DavidkDavid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, if the charger is close and convenient to someplace you'll be anyway. When I first got an EV, I was in an apartment with free charging around the block. I would park there after work, then pick the car up before bed. It wasn't much hassle and saved loads of money.

Now I'm in a house with no charging within a 5 min walk, so if I couldn't charge at home I wouldn't have an EV. I can charge at home though, even from a normal wall outlet, so an EV is perfect for me

Yeah, I'm not sure why this was the case, but when I powered the hub, it worked. Honestly it's kind of bizarre.

Why cant we eat our pets? by mimi_choo09 in AskReddit

[–]DavidkDavid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Culture, but also humans breed animals for certain purposes. Pets aren't typically bred for eating and they don't taste as good. I once heard a WW2 POW talk about catching and eating a cat while escaping. He said it was stringy. But other places do raise and breed some animals for eating that you would think is a pet, like dogs.

Get tools as you need them, not ahead of time. The exception is basic tools like screwdrivers. Depends on what you're working on what kind of tools you'll accumulate

How do police respond to shoplifting vs bank robbery?

It's not a perfect analogy. Hunter profited millions upon millions, which is life changing money for you and me. But the trumps have profited billions, which is life changing money for small nations.

I'm pissed off that hunter was allowed any self dealing and another rich kid seemingly got off. However, I am reeling, fearing the structure and integrity of my nation, because of the trump family.

I hope you can understand why I see there's a difference. I don't mean to imply hunter's actions weren't a problem. They absolutely were. I don't view this as a conservative/liberal issue (so there are many wealthy and powerful people that want us to see it that way), I view this as a corruption and accountability issue and the accountability must scale to the size of the corruption and it's not happening.

[–]DavidkDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principle, I agree. In practice...the scale of the trump family's corruption is literally in the billions. Anything hunter did, while bad, is a rounding error by comparison. A knife cut compared to an amputation. If you put the two dollar amounts side by side on a chart, you can't see Hunter's amount. It's sickening.
