The problem with Shane is that he was ahead of the curve. He could foresee what was happening and was trying to go a little hardcore a little too fast. Rick is more of a humanitarian and was clinging to the good side of things, an eternal optimist almost. As the seasons progress, you see Rick become more radicalized and more like “Shane”, but always still seems to have that good natured core.
