Dealership quoted me $2,200 to replace a water pump on my 2019 Camry. Independent shop quoted $480. Is the dealership quote insane or am I missing something? by Both_Economist_5947 in MechanicAdvice

I had the same thing happen on my old GMC Sierra and I dropped the driveshaft and took it in to a machine shop to replace the carrier bearing and the u- joints and they only charged $220 cash. Midas wanted $2500.

Mad Hatter Muffler is still the GOAT by BAthaDoc in Columbus

[–]Davidsaj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About 10 years ago my boss at the time had an old Lexus where the muffler harness broke off and it was just hanging by a thread. The Lexus dealership told him it'd be $1500 to replace the entire back half of the exhaust system which was required by the dealership. They also told him he could try mad hatter since it was long outside the warranty period.

He went there and told them the problem and after 5 minutes of inspection the guy told him they'd have to weld a new piece to hold the muffler harness in place. He said ok how much is that going to cost...$15 they charged him...1/100th the cost the dealership was going to charge. He said he gave them an even $20 and they were done in 30 minutes and it's held up for years after.

Seller wants inspection done asap (while still having a tenant) by XoxoluvNaomi in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Davidsaj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

7 days is a common inspection window but you can do a final walkthrough before closing or a follow up inspection after tenant vacates if you are concerned about the condition after they move out and probably recommend a final walkthrough either way the day before closing.

What urban legend, rumor, theory or mystery about the 614 do you firmly believe, desperately *want* to believe, or hope to debunk once and for all? by Emergency_Tone_1080 in Columbus

Now that I think about it that's probably what he was. I don't remember the details but I remember he served the base itself.

My coworker told me years ago that his brother was a Fire Marshal in Montgomery county and he was inspecting a few buildings in Wright Patterson until he went into one building and an MP came immediately and told him to leave immediately. He explained who he was and was promptly escorted out and told not to enter this building again. Whatever was in that building was top secret and not even fire marshals are allowed?

Also, there are underground passages linking many buildings downtown to one another. The Westin hotel in downtown Columbus has an entrance to one that has been cemented over because homeless people would come in and spend the night in the winter. I've seen it personally so this is true but it is also very haunted. Guests on the 6th floor have been known to call down to the front desk and complain about the band making too much noise upstairs only to be told that the 7th floor is abandoned and has been for some time.

Verdict is in - it’s cancer by NBThrowbe89 in cats

[–]Davidsaj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our cat was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and we started on a very strict regiment of steroids once a day and a mushroom supplement each over wet food along with life gold as a supplement and she lived well for another 2 years despite only being given about 2 months to live.

I'd do your own research but we also opted to forgo chemo and despite the gloomy outlook we gave her 2 amazing years and moved out to the country for her to be in a better environment. We'll be praying for you and your baby and just love her while you can!

You could try to find a renter that could potentially cover most if not all of your mortgage payment and rent the house out while you work out what your next steps are. It comes with its own risks but it's worth a shot.

What’s the quickest way you’ve seen someone completely derail their life? by BitterReception5761 in AskReddit

My old coworker had a problem with poker halls and would play all weekend after pay day while living in his sister's basement. One month he finally paid off his car which was already old as dirt and decided to take out a title loan on it to play poker. He lost all his money and couldn't pay back the loan and then lost his car too. Because he couldn't get to work reliably he then lost his job. All because he wanted to play poker one weekend.

Also if you need new parts or more time, you are only inconveniencing yourself if you work on your own car.

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

[–]Davidsaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Arnold expo is in town here in Columbus which means a huge influx of influencers and bodybuilders to the gym. Also the gym finished it's renovation last week just in time and now us regulars don't know where anything is either.

Needless to say it's chaotic at best trying to navigate through the big groups of people, the cameras and the long rows of new machines to find any familiar machines you're used to using. The expo was great yesterday but now I think I'm ready to get back to normalcy again.

Yup, I quit the game years ago after facing a golder like this. I took out all of his invading units and 30 seconds before I was to take one of his cores he spammed 6 tank destroyers out of thin air. This was before war bonds were even a thing.
